Position Overview:

We are a leading engineering firm dedicated to innovation and excellence in manufacturing nuclear components. We are currently seeking a Senior Welding Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cambridge, ON. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in advancement of our welding capabilities by developing welding processes, ensuring quality standards, leading complex engineering projects, and implementing innovative production welding applications in support of growth opportunities within the nuclear industry (Small Modular Reactors, Microreactors, new nuclear technologies).

Your Day to Day as our Senior Weld Engineer:

  1. Welding Procedure Development:
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive Welding Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQs) to meet customer requirements and quality standards for complex nuclear components and vessels.
    • Ensure that welding techniques meet the rigorous demands of manufacturing processes and regulatory compliance.
    • Create and maintain material specifications for nuclear and conventional welding consumables including specification and additional testing for special requirements. Support management of inventory for projects and manufacturing shop.
  2. Non-Conformance Resolution:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams as the weld engineering lead, including quality assurance, engineering, and production, to troubleshoot and resolve non-conformance issues.
    • Produce supplementary documentation such as work orders and repair plans to address identified non-conforming conditions.
  3. Tooling and Fixtures Design:
    • Design and implement custom tooling and fixtures to enhance shop workflow and elevate safety and efficiency.
  4. Product Reviews and Project Management:
    • Conduct detailed pre-manufacturing product and drawing reviews, identifying necessary welding procedures, processes, tooling and fixtures to ensure operational readiness.
    • Lead and take ownership of welding technical and implementation aspects of large, complex projects with minimal managerial oversight, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes to meet project timelines.
  5. Process Development and Improvement:
    • Evaluate and implement innovative welding processes, new applications and welding equipment to support ongoing and future manufacturing capabilities.
    • Lead corrective actions related to welding and drive continuous process improvement and innovation within the manufacturing environment.
    • Collaborate with shop employees and welder training program to implement best practices in welding processes for optimal performance and reduced rework.
  6. Documentation and Database Maintenance:
    • Maintain meticulous records of welding equipment, consumables, and operational best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and training.
    • Oversee the maintenance of databases containing historical data and past performance metrics for welding operations.
  7. Team Collaboration and Mentorship:
    • Act as a cross-functional liaison, providing guidance and training to peers and shop personnel on welding processes, techniques, and equipment use.
    • Mentor and develop junior and intermediate welding engineers to become lead welding engineers and develop technical expertise.
    • Facilitate training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff involved in welding operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering (MSc, MEng, or PhD is considered an asset).
  • Professional Designation: P.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and codes (eg, TSSA, ASME, CNSC, NRC, etc)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with proven leadership experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with preferred experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with CSA machine guarding, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing principles, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Nuclear industry is strongly preferred.

The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[89,000]] and $[[139,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
