Job Description:

THIS IS AN ONSITE ROLE LOCATED IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN.

The Manufacturing Operations Manager provides leadership to manufacturing operations supervisors, leads, and teams and is accountable for both short and long-term functional strategies and operational direction of departments. The role is to lead subordinate leaders by championing Barry-Wehmiller's Truly Human Leadership approach, where success is measured by the way we touch the lives of our co-workers and team members.

The Manufacturing Operations Manager must be a leader who can develop others, be a strategic thinker, and be influential. This leader is an analytical person with a prominent level of ownership and the ability to communicate with executive leadership and provide recommendations when necessary.

This individual should be well organized, disciplined, initiative-taking, and able to balance multiple priorities related to operations and organization. The ideal candidate will be an initiative-taking communicator and have a level of professionalism and business acumen that allows communication with company personnel as well as external customers.

This position will be a critical team member in identifying and organizing improvements and sustaining efforts focused on improving the plants' schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction key performance indicators (KPI). This role is the owner or co-owner of all plant Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Plant Housekeeping/ flow projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily & Weekly Task:

  • Responsible for the execution and conformance to the schedule of sub-contracted Assembly or Sub-Assembly work. Coordinates Manufacturing, Engineering, and Shipping efforts and reports statuses daily.
  • Communicates applicable Key Performance Indicators statuses through various forums to all levels of leadership and constituents.
  • Promotes an environment of teamwork and ensures necessary systems are in place to confirm alignment of plant operations across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Inventory teams.
  • Verified labor hours are accounted for accurately for Project Accounting.
  • Supports procurement process of materials and other equipment to achieve schedules or improve shop performance.
  • Supports daily, weekly, and monthly skills and safety training.
  • Attends Company level meetings regarding scheduling, project financials, and staffing; ensures plans are in place to align with Company plans and strategies.
  • Contributes to the plant Gemba and Continuous Improvement efforts.

Leadership responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate vital leadership behaviors (employee-centered and value-based) of Barry-Wehmiller's Truly Human Leadership model.
  • Drives the manufacturing teams' culture of participation and collaboration with subordinate leadership.
  • Understanding how to develop an organizational culture that can support the strategies and plans of Alliance and Barry-Wehmiller is essential.
  • Possesses strong people skills, is emotionally intelligent, and can develop the Supervisors and lead difficult conversations with employees.
  • Manage, Review, and evaluate the performance of Manufacturing team and leads through the BW Elevate/ Performance Cycle program.
  • Works with Plant Manufacturing leadership to manage the appropriate shifts Skills Matrix by assessing team member skill levels and identifying, planning, and executing employee training.
  • In coordination with Human Resources (CPD), the Sr. Operations Manager approves candidates, subordinate leaders' interview for hires, develops or approves training plans, delivers performance evaluations, administers disciplinary actions, and terminates employees as warranted.

Quality, CI, and Safety responsibilities:

  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator/ Manager to improve worker safety; coordinate programs essential to safe manufacturing procedures and work environment; and enforce PPE standards.
  • Champions Gemba activities with extended leadership team(s) to review Project status, Target-To-Improve project status, housekeeping level, Team CI suggestion board, HAZCOM maintenance, or other work categories that support improved KPIs.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase output, safety, resource consumption, or other business drivers.
  • Supports Company Schedule or Margin goals through identifying, planning, requesting resources, Quality or Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • May be asked to perform other duties at a lower or higher level of proficiency or not related to this classification on occasion.
  • Responsible for planning, and implementing best practices processes to reduce variability, improve flow, increase velocity, and achieve operational excellence. Champion and lead change with a wide variety of initiatives across the operational area of the business.
  • Enhanced the quality system by building quality into the operations processes versus through inspection.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business administration
  • Project Management credentials such as PMP or similar
  • A Lean Six Sigma green belt or black belt is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in Manufacturing.

Physical Requirements

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, an individual must be willing and able to

  • Travel is less than 10%.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
  • Sit or stand at a desk or computer for extended periods.
  • Move about the office and factory with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., bending, and reaching.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling, reaching overhead, and gross and fine manipulation.
  • Dial, hear, and respond to telephone calls and inquiries.
  • Communicate effectively (visually and verbally) with internal and external contacts.
  • The requirement is daily attendance on the job for a full, continuous work schedule.

Compensation: $90,000 - $125,000 (Depending on experience)
