Job Summary
Under the direction of the ultrasound attending or the Director of Ultrasound and Site Administrator (for non-clinical functions), performs a variety of ultrasound examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Uses independent judgement and initiative to a I described scanning methods for purposes of medical diagnosis.
Essential Functions
  • 1. Perform to completion sonograms of indicated anatomical areas using available modalities following prescribed protocols.
    * Insure complete sonographic examinations as required for diagnostic purposes. (ACR standards)
  • 2. Utilize correct patient positioning based on patient habitus and exam requirements.
    * Optimizations and thorough scanning techniques for all exams.
  • 3. Prepare a preliminary written impression of completed sonogram.
    * Supply initial impression for review by attending in charge for all exams performed.
  • 4. Interview patients for identification, patient education and detailed clinical history
    * Performance of appropriate exam and patient awareness. Zero error tolerance for patient identification.
  • 5. Maintain quality patient care, e.g. IV pump o operation, o oxygen delivery patient modesty, etc.)
    * Maximize patient safety and comfort Zero incidence rate.
  • 6. Clean and maintain ultrasound equipment between procedures.
    * Universal precautions and infection control.
  • 7. Monitor and maintain performance of all equipment.
    * Insure proper equipment function to manufacturers specifications. Adherence to manufacturers s specifications.
  • 8. Safe handling and security of ultrasound e equipment.
    * Minimize equipment downtime from mishandling and loss.
  • 9. Maintain film jackets, patient records, exam verification in charts, will be trained and must utilize ASOBGYN proficiently
    * Accurate medical documentation of procedures in charts utilizing ASOBGYN
  • 10. Correlation of x-ray, lab results, and other clinical data.
    * Correlation of clinical and ultrasound findings for maximum yield.
  • 11. Maintain the standard of Montefiore RESPECT in the working environment.
    * In order to have a productive and pleasant environment, strive for excellence in all areas of the position.

Qualifications
  • High School Required
  • AS Preferred
  • Must have passed both Physics and Obstetries to be certified by the ARDMS. Requires 30
    Continuing Education credits per three year rolling triennium to maintain active ARDMS status within the Department of
    Obs/Gyn & Women's Health.
  • Graduation from an accredited training program in diagnostic medical sonography which meets requirements for
    certification by ARDMS.
  • Experience and skills in obstetrics and gynecology are necessary, which level of expertise
    will be determined by the Director of Ultrasound.
