What is a manual tester?

A manual tester is a member of a software development team responsible for taking and testing a program or app through a wide range of scenarios. In this role, you take the place of an end user and use applications as intended, documenting any bugs or glitches. Testing is not done randomly; you follow a rigid software testing flowchart and end up checking every aspect of the program in a way automated software is unable to replicate. Manual testers must document everything meticulously.

What skills are expected in a good manual tester?

Manual Testers are quality assurance professionals responsible for manually testing software applications to identify bugs, errors, or usability issues before a product is released. They execute test cases without the use of automation tools, carefully documenting results and reporting defects to development teams. Manual Testers play a crucial role in ensuring that software meets specified requirements and functions correctly for end users. Their work often involves collaborating closely with developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software products.

What are some typical challenges manual testers face when working on fast-paced agile teams?

Manual Testers in agile environments often encounter challenges such as keeping up with rapid development cycles, ensuring thorough testing within tight deadlines, and maintaining clear communication with developers and product owners. Since requirements can change frequently, testers must be adaptable and proactive in updating test cases. Successful Manual Testers prioritize tasks effectively, collaborate closely with team members, and use exploratory testing techniques to catch issues that automated tests might miss.

A manual tester's salary varies by experience, location, and industry, but the average annual pay ranges from $45,000 to $70,000. Entry-level testers typically earn less, while those with several years of experience or certifications can earn higher salaries. Job description

A role at Vista Cosmos is more than just a job, it’s an opportunity to collaborate on breathtaking, award-winning games every single day.

Senior QA Tester

Permanent employee, Full-time · Center Point

YOUR JOB

Vista Cosmos is seeking a Senior QA Tester ("m/f/d") to lead quality assurance efforts across our game projects. If you're a proactive QA professional with strong mobile experience, deep knowledge of QA processes, and a passion for games, this is your opportunity to shape the quality of player experiences at launch and beyond.

You will serve as the main QA point of contact for your project, working closely with developers, producers, and external vendors. You’ll drive test strategy, oversee both manual and automated test efforts, and ensure quality standards across mobile and web platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own and drive the QA process for assigned projects from concept to release and beyond.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive test plans and strategies tailored to each project.
  • Perform detailed manual testing on mobile and web platforms, ensuring smooth gameplay and stability.
  • Regression testing – because fixing one bug shouldn’t create five new ones!
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to triage issues, prioritize fixes, and validate improvements
  • Develop and maintain test automation within a Unity framework, focusing on test scenarios for key features, UI validation, and smoke tests.
  • Evaluate tools and frameworks to enhance test coverage and efficiency.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of QA experience in the gaming industry, especially experience with mobile games.
  • Experience with Unity, specifically for creating test automation (e.g., using Unity Test Framework).
  • Deep understanding of QA methodologies, mobile testing practices, and agile workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) – fluency in English is essential.
  • Analytical thinker with high attention to detail and a collaborative mindset.
  • A passion for gaming and understanding of modern game design across platforms.
  • A team player mindset – you work well with others and thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Nice to have: Experience with compliance for platform submission guidelines (App Store, Google Play).
  • Nice to have: Experience with managing external QA vendors for compatibility and performance testing.
  • Bonus points: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a gaming-related field.
  • Work in an exciting industry: Join a company at the heart of the gaming world — a creative, passionate environment that’s as fun and dynamic as the games we help bring to life.
  • Hybrid/Remote model & flexibility: Flexible working hours and the option to work in a hybrid setup or fully remote within Germany.
  • Time to recharge: 30 days of vacation annually to rest, travel, or catch up on your favorite games.
  • Team culture: Regular company events, celebrations, and social gatherings.
  • Learning & development: An annual education budget for all employees to support continuous learning and skill-building.
