Managing Director, Investment Management Technology
Role Overview
The Managing Director, Investment Management Technology, will provide enterprise technology leadership for all front-office investment capabilities including investment research, trading, portfolio management, and analytics platforms supporting Schwab Asset Management Services (SAMS), the broader product enterprise, and the Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR). This leader will define and execute the strategic technology vision across investment management and research capabilities, ensuring platforms are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned to Schwab's asset management priorities, product growth agenda, and digital transformation objectives.
As a member of the SAM Technology Leadership Team, this executive partners with Asset Management leadership to align technology strategy with business priorities, product innovation, and long-term growth objectives. Serving as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership, the Managing Director provides strategic counsel on influencing business strategy, investment priorities, operating models, emerging technologies, and industry trends, helping shape business strategy and identify opportunities to advance Asset Management's competitive position.
This role will unify research, investment management, and separately managed account front office technology into a scaled, high-performing organization positioned to accelerate investment innovation, strengthen operational excellence, and enable differentiated client and advisor experiences. The Managing Director will partner closely with senior leaders across investment management, product, research, compliance, operations, and technology to influence cross-functional transformation, deliver modern, agile, and integrated solutions supporting Schwab's long-term growth strategy.
Key Outcomes
  • Define and execute the investment technology roadmap: Establish a clear multi-year strategy, target state architecture and investment roadmap for front office investment, research, trading, portfolio management, and analytics platforms aligned to Schwab Asset Management priorities and enterprise transformation goals.
  • Modernize core asset management platforms: Lead the core modernization delivering scalable, resilient, and integrated technology capabilities to support portfolio construction, model management, trading, investment compliance, and multi-asset workflows.
  • Advance research, AI and analytics capabilities: Enable next-generation quantitative, qualitative, and AI-enabled / data-driven research tools strengthening investment insights, advisor enablement, and client-facing content across SCFR and related teams.
  • Technology Investment Management: Manage a significant technology investment portfolio, ensuring disciplined investment prioritization, financial stewardship vendor optimization, and measurable return on technology investments.
  • Strengthen enterprise partnership and delivery: Serve as a trusted partner to senior leaders across investment management, product, research, compliance, operations, and technology to accelerate agile delivery, increase speed of delivery and ensure technology investments drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Drive operational excellence and governance: Establish and enforce standards, frameworks, and delivery practices meeting enterprise standards for architecture, engineering, security, resiliency, regulatory compliance, and risk management across both internal and external (vendor) platforms and services.
  • Lead AI and Investment Data Transformation: Help define and execute the SAM AI and investment data strategy, embedding AI, trusted data, and intelligent automation across front-office capabilities while ensuring responsible governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Build a High Performing Technology Organization: Build and lead a high-performing technology organization through exceptional talent strategy, organizational transformation, succession planning, leadership development, global engineering execution model, strategic partnerships, and a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

What you have
Required Experience:
  • Deep asset management technology and domain expertise, with a strong understanding of investment processes, alpha generation workflows, liquidity management, portfolio construction tools, and front office investment capabilities.
  • Demonstrated credibility with investment leaders, portfolio managers, research teams, traders, and senior business stakeholders, with the ability to translate investment objectives into scalable technology strategies and execution plans.
  • Experience supporting multiple investment product structures, including ETFs, mutual funds, separately managed accounts, alternatives, model portfolios, and other asset management vehicles.
  • Proven leadership of front office investment management and research technology organizations supporting research, portfolio management, trading, investment compliance, analytics, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience overseeing investment systems integration, market and reference data management, investment analytics platforms, and critical vendor relationships such as Aladdin, Vestmark, Perform, and related technology providers.
  • Track record leading AI, data, and analytics transformation initiatives that enhance investment research, quantitative capabilities, operational efficiency, and decision support.
  • Experience defining multi-asset, multi-product, multi-channel front office technology strategy and multi-year roadmaps.
  • Experience modernizing technology platforms using cloud-native architecture, APIs, platform engineering and development best practices,
  • Executive experience presenting technology strategies, roadmaps, and transformation initiatives to Executive Committees and senior leadership teams.
