Role overview

As Director, Institutional Consultant Relations at Sun Life Global Investments, you'll play a key role in advancing our client-focused strategy by building trusted relationships with leading consulting firms and large advisory organizations. Through strong investment expertise and clear positioning of SLGI's products and solutions, you'll help strengthen endorsements, improve product ratings, and create new opportunities for growth.

This position is preferably based in either Toronto or Montreal

What will you do

Consultant Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Strategic engagement: develop and execute an annual plan to strengthen consultant endorsements and product ratings.
  • Comprehensive coverage model: implement coverage strategies that keep SLGI's investment solutions top of mind with manager research teams and advisory firms.
  • Proactive product communication: keep partners informed of new products, solutions, and enhancements, including Sun Life's Delegated DC and SLC DB offerings.
  • Responsive relationship management: Address partner information needs promptly and collaborate with Sales Support to strengthen investment content.

Investment Due Diligence & Content Excellence

  • Investment due diligence leadership: lead SLGI's due diligence initiatives in collaboration with Portfolio Management, Responsible Investment, Product, Marketing, Institutional Business, and Finance.
  • Database excellence: proactively help maintain accurate, timely content and coordinate required risk and governance reviews.
  • Content oversight: review quarterly fund and solution commentaries to ensure clear, client-friendly insights.
  • Thought leadership contribution: partner across teams to review and strengthen research and insights for SLGI's Thought Leadership Program.

Market Strategy & Business Growth

  • Proactive internal collaboration: partner with Business Development and Client Relationship teams to share insights, provide technical support, and advance asset growth and retention.
  • Competitive analysis and market strategy: contribute to the assessment of SLGI's competitive positioning and support cross-functional go-to-market strategies.
What do you need to succeed
  • 15+ years of experience driving institutional business development and managing senior client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of investment products, pension plans, and the group retirement market.
  • Executive presence and credibility, with the ability to earn trust with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, manage stakeholders, and navigate complex organizations.
  • Collaborative leadership style, with the influence to drive alignment and outcomes without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Strategic, client-focused mindset with a track record of solving challenges and delivering results.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, eVestment, and related business-development tools.
Your Background
  • University degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • CFA and/or ASA designation is a strong asset.
  • Licensing as required for specific markets.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
