Job Title

The BDO Washington National Tax Office (WNT) Advisory practice provides technical leadership and support to firm client service professionals and alliance firms on tax matters, new legislation and Treasury guidance, articles on key tax issues and working with marketing and Tax quality control to ensure high level of information that is disseminated internally and externally. The Managing Director, National Tax Office, ASC 740 will collaborate amongst WNT professionals and with tax leadership to drive communication efficiencies.

The Washington National Tax Managing Director (Managing Director), ASC 740, applies knowledge and experience to assist clients with tax planning and compliance, and participate in firm training. The Managing Director will collaborate amongst WNT professionals and with tax leadership to drive operational efficiencies.

Job Duties
  • Applies knowledge and expertise to assist internal and external clients
  • Coordinates with WNT, tax leadership and BDO firm leadership to execute upon the firm strategy
  • Develops and implements firm wide training programs for staff through partner in area of expertise
  • Other duties as required
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
  • Applies, correctly and proactively, Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality & Risk Management Manual (TQRM) regarding ASC 740
  • Applies, correctly and proactively, ASC 740-10, and Firm policies, standards, and BDO TQRM
  • Explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client as well as other complexities surrounding ASC 740-10
  • Communicates with Assurance team to timely plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope and delivery dates
  • Reviews tax provisions and applies in depth knowledge of ASC 740
  • Reviews prepared workpapers
  • Utilizes and manages Specialized Tax Services (STS), as needed
Research
  • Identifies when research is needed, clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched and clearly and concisely reports the analysis
  • Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research processes
  • Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to appropriately frame ASC 740 tax issues for analysis
  • Involves firm specialists, as appropriate
Tax Specialization
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits
  • May be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists
Strategy Development
  • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits
  • Consistently makes suggestions as to how previous work products or approaches can be improved
  • May lead marketing campaigns, if applicable to role
  • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients
  • Collaborates with the Firm's National Tax and Specialized Tax Services to deliver high-quality deliverables and/or analyses on ASC 740
Strengthening Our Firm
  • Attends meetings and participates in office, regional, and national client service efforts
  • Attends and participates in national, regional, Firm, and Alliance meetings and supports related activities
  • Participates in national Industry initiatives
  • Ensures the national business line conforms with the Firm's technical standards by examining office review reports from the Director of Quality Control and technical advisors
Risk Management
  • Helps ensure business lines are performing within firm regulations and guidelines as stated in the firm's business line quality control manuals
  • Provides on-the-job training
  • Puts the interests of the Firm above the interests of a client when resolving issues
  • Engages BDO technical, tax, consulting, valuation, and other professionals to resolve client issues
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervises and reviews work of associates, senior associates, and managers, as needed
  • Develops and manages a team of associates, senior associates, and managers
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, required
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred
  • LLM Tax and/or MST/MBT, preferred

Experience:

  • Ten (10) or more years of prior experience, required
  • Experience in managing the process of preparing and auditing ASC740 computations for both privately held and publicly traded clients, required
  • Prior supervisory experience, required
  • Multinational client experience, preferred

License/Certifications:

  • CPA certification, preferred
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred

Software:

  • Various tax applications and research tools, required

Language:

  • N/A

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $190,000 - $300,000 Maryland Range: $190,000 - $300,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $190,000 - $300,000
