Job description

SAIC is seeking an XML developer/ Test Support Analyst with a technical background (e.g., engineering, software development, or software testing) to support the development, maintenance, and configuration of a variety of project documentation, technical data deliverables and support software testing activities.

This is a Hybrid/Remote role based in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and candidates must be local to the area. This is primarily a remote role; however, the candidate must have the ability to be onsite at the customer facility at APG as needed. Onsite support would be on as-required basis, typically for short periods (a few days to up to a week at a time) throughout the year depending on testing events, customer coordination, or specific program needs.

Role Summary:

The selected candidate will support the conversion, validation, and maintenance of Technical Manuals in XML format using structure authoring tools and established technical data standards. 

This role will also support software and system testing activities, including test execution support, documentation updates, issue tracking, verification of system functionality, and coordination of technical changes identified during testing efforts.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Convert Technical Manuals from source formats (e.g., Microsoft Word and PDF) into structured XML and maintain XML-based technical content in accordance with established standards 
  • Support XML package generation and validation activities
  • Maintain technical documentation in accordance with project and customer standards
  • Assist in software/system testing activities and test event support
  • Review and update Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports
  • Document defects, discrepancies, and technical issues identified during testing
  • Coordinate technical documentation updates resulting from software or system changes
  • Collaborate with engineering, development, test, and project management teams

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in science/technology or related field; 4 additional years of experience can be substituted for degree
  • 6 year of relevant experience is required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in XML development, technical documentation, software testing, or related technical fields
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Must be local to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD area
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in XML development, technical documentation, software testing, or related technical fields
  • Experience with XML editing and structured authoring tools such as Arbortext Editor, oXygen XML Editor, and XML validation tools such as the Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS) for compliance with U.S. Army XML standards
  • Experience working with Technical Manuals or technical documentation
  • Familiarity with software/system testing processes and documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Candidates with the following experience are strongly preferred:

  • Experience supporting DoD or Government programs 
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD technical documentation (e.g., MIL-STD-40051, S1000D)
  • Familiarity in XML schema validation and structured data standards
  • Experience working within Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environments
  • Experience supporting software verification and validation activities
  • Demonstrated experience working in customer environments, coordinating and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, including Government personnel, engineers, developers, testers and subcontractor/prime contractor organizations
  • Ability to independently develop, review, and revise technical and administrative documents, organize raw input, and adapt documentation for various audiences and stakeholders
