Compensation: $92,000 – $158,000

Bonus: Annual performance bonus target of approximately 12%–16% based on company and individual performance

Position Summary

The Senior Process Engineer – Wet Etch is a highly technical semiconductor manufacturing role responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining advanced wet etch processes for optoelectronic devices including VCSELs, photodiodes, and edge-emitting lasers (EMLs). This position supports leading-edge semiconductor technologies utilizing GaAs and InP substrates in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.

This engineer will play a critical role in process development, yield improvement, process characterization, and continuous improvement initiatives tied to advanced semiconductor fabrication. The role requires deep technical expertise in semiconductor wet etch processing, strong chemistry knowledge, and hands-on problem-solving within a production fab environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and optimize wet etch processes for VCSELs, photodiodes, and edge-emitting laser devices on GaAs and InP substrates
  • Define and control etch chemistries, etch rates, selectivity, isotropic vs. anisotropic etching, and undercut management
  • Support process development and refinement activities within semiconductor manufacturing operations
  • Utilize metrology tools including AFM, SEM, ellipsometry, profilometry, XPS, XRD, and optical interferometry for process characterization and defect analysis
  • Troubleshoot process deviations, material compatibility issues, and yield-impacting defects while implementing corrective actions
  • Establish and maintain SPC methodologies and process monitoring systems
  • Design and execute engineering experiments using DOE methodologies and statistical analysis tools
  • Develop CTRL plans, OCAP procedures, process recipes, SOPs, and engineering documentation
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield enhancement, scrap reduction, cycle time improvement, and cost reduction
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Device Engineering, Process Integration, Operations, Equipment Engineering, Supply Chain, and R&D teams
  • Evaluate and qualify new wet etch chemistries, process automation technologies, and equipment platforms
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on wet etch process development initiatives


What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
  • Minimum 3+ years of semiconductor wet etch process engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with semiconductor wet etch processing and chemistry
  • Experience supporting GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) and/or InP semiconductor processes strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor fabrication, process characterization, and yield improvement methodologies
  • Experience with SPC, DOE, and data-driven process optimization techniques
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities within manufacturing environments
  • Experience working in semiconductor cleanroom environments
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills
  • Proficiency with JMP, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical analysis software


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VCSELs, photodiodes, edge-emitting lasers (EMLs), or optoelectronic device manufacturing
  • Knowledge of dry etch and wet etch process integration
  • Automation, SECS/GEM, APC, or FDC experience
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or continuous improvement certification
