Job description

Description Responsible for promoting the events, services and resources of the County Libraries. Produces a variety of promotional materials for the library using graphic design and publishing software. Manages social media accounts for the library.

Assists with layout, development, and evaluation of marketing tools and content, including newsletters, editorials, flyers, TV slides, presentations, and other marketing materials. Writes and edits compelling copy for different platforms and publications, while maintaining a consistent and appropriate tone for the library. Serves as the Library's social media manager; designs social media graphics and campaigns to promote library events, services and resources.

In consultation with Library leadership, responds to social media questions and comments as necessary. Provides publications and graphics support to other library staff as requested, ensuring all publications comply with current design standards. Photographs events and regular activities at the library for marketing purposes.

Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; bachelor's degree in a field related to communication, journalism or public relations is preferred. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be able to work weekends and evenings, as required.

This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history, background and DMV record checks. Supplemental Information Thorough knowledge of social media marketing principles and strategies. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and accepted journalistic usage.

Thorough knowledge of personal computers and software applications including word processing, graphic design, desktop publishing, and spreadsheet software. General knowledge of photography and basic videography techniques. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both the public and other employees. Ability to analyze work procedures and exercise sound judgment in establishing priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service. The earliest start date for this position is July 13, 2026. Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including office equipment such as computers, copiers, etc.
