Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to surgical patients, ensuring safety and quality throughout perioperative procedures. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, collaborating with surgical teams, and managing intraoperative care. The RN must demonstrate exceptional clinical skills, communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required, with preference given to those experienced in surgical procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in the Operating Room.
  • Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs before, during, and after surgery.
  • Administer medications and manage anesthesia support as required.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical instruments.
  • Document patient care and surgical events accurately using Epic electronic medical records.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide critical care as needed during surgical procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide coverage during weekends and holidays as required.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols within the acute care setting.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience; 3 years preferred with surgical procedure expertise.
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning in surgical settings.
  • Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation within a 50-mile radius.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.
  • Prior experience in acute care hospital Operating Room environments.
Special Considerations:
  • On-call responsibilities are mandatory, including weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Radius for travel to the facility is 50 miles.
  • Facility allows one call-off per two-week pay period.
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
  • Scrub color for RNs is navy blue; L&D/OR scrubs are provided.
  • Free parking available for staff.
Scheduling:
  • 12-hour variable shifts covering Sunday through Saturday.
  • Shift times include 0630-1900, 0930-2200, and 1030-2300 with some shifts including on-call periods from 1900-2300 or 2300-0700.
  • Weekend and holiday shifts required as part of the schedule.
  • Block scheduling accommodations may be available at manager's discretion.
