Job description

About Local Now

Local Now is a free, ad-supported streaming service delivering local news, weather, sports, and lifestyle programming to viewers across virtually every connected device. As part of Allen Media Group, we operate at meaningful scale across mobile, smart TVs, streaming sticks, set-top boxes, and the web. We are now investing in a ground-up rebuild of our streaming platform with a privacy-first architecture, modern shared-code strategy, and the engineering rigor needed to grow sustainably.

We build for audiences who expect frictionless playback on any device, and for advertisers who depend on us to deliver reliable, high-quality monetization. The work is tangible: every improvement we make is felt by millions of viewers.

The Role

We are hiring a QA Manager to lead quality assurance for our streaming platform across connected TV, mobile, and web. With apps spanning roughly nine device families and a free, ad-supported business model, the cost of regressions is high and the testing surface is unusually broad. You will own QA strategy end-to-end: test planning, automation roadmap, release gating, ad-quality testing for both client- and server-side ad insertion, and the privacy regression discipline required by modern consent and data-handling regulations.

You will manage a small but growing QA team and partner closely with engineering leadership to establish quality as a first-class engineering concern, not an afterthought.

What You Will Do
  • Define and own the QA strategy for the Local Now platform across iOS, Android, smart TV, streaming devices, and web.

  • Build out a test automation roadmap that scales across many platforms with a lean team — including device-lab strategy, CI integration, and tooling decisions.

  • Establish release gating, regression coverage, and acceptance criteria in partnership with engineering and product.

  • Lead QA for video playback (live and VOD), client-side and server-side ad insertion, ad pod logic, and quality-of-experience metrics.

  • Drive privacy and consent regression testing as a recurring discipline — not a one-time launch task.

  • Manage, mentor, and grow the QA team; recruit and onboard additional QA engineers as the organization scales.

  • Partner with DevOps and observability functions to ensure that issues found in production feed back into test coverage.

  • Report on quality KPIs, escape rates, and release health to executive leadership.

What We Are Looking For
  • 5+ years of QA experience, including 2+ years managing or leading QA engineers.

  • Demonstrated experience owning QA for a multi-platform consumer product — ideally streaming, media, or another high-volume B2C application.

  • Hands-on background with test automation frameworks (e.g., Appium, XCUITest, Espresso, Playwright/WebDriver) and CI-integrated test pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of streaming video QA: playback behavior, ad insertion, DRM, and quality-of-experience signals.

  • Experience establishing release processes, quality gates, and bug-triage practices in a fast-moving engineering organization.

  • Ability to balance manual and automated testing pragmatically, especially across device platforms where automation is uneven.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — comfortable presenting quality posture to executive stakeholders.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with FAST, AVOD, or other ad-supported streaming services.

  • Familiarity with consent management, DSAR workflows, or privacy regulation testing (CCPA, GDPR).

  • Experience with QA tooling for connected TV platforms specifically (Roku, Fire TV, Tizen, Vizio, X1).

  • Background bringing AI-assisted testing or developer-productivity tooling into a QA practice.
