Position Overview

The Truck Driver drives a water, distributor, service truck or TMA with capacity of 2,000 gallons or more to transport emulsion, diesel fuel, or non-potable water to and from specified destinations.ย This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks. Work will be performed per the supervisorโ€™s instruction, free from direct supervision except for more complicated jobs.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Drive truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Has previous experience hauling equipment.ย 

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Assist crew with other tasks when not operating distributor truck as directed by field supervisor.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor on the job, as well as directing paving trucks to job site.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Responsible for loading truck from emulsion tank when operating distributor truck.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Responsible for applying emulsion to road surface prior to paving.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Responsible for daily pre-trip inspection of truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Individual must possess a CDL B (or A) License with a Tank and Hazmat Endorsement.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Follow directions of supervisor as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Shovel dirt, stone, asphalt, or any other materials depending on the job site.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย May perform duties of flagman for traffic control to various responsibilities as needed.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.ย Education/Experience

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย CDL Class A or B with Tanker, air brakes, and hazmat endorsementsย are required.

Work Requirements

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must be 18 years in age or older.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must pass DOT physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย MVR must meet company and DOT standards.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must maintain current driverโ€™s license that meets state requirements, i.e., CDL, Class A and/or B Driver with possible hazmat and tanker endorsements.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Willing to train employees who may not have driving experience must currently maintain a CDL A or CDL B license.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Must be familiar with securing heavy equipment and other over dimensional loads.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ability to professionally interact with customers, collect payments and assist with issues that may arise.

Physical Requirements

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Job requires climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting of extensions chutes, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering load when applicable.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
