The Packaging Supervisor supervises operation of filling & packaging, ensuring that the highest possible product quality is maintained, while operating in a safe and efficient manner.

 Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Directly supervise packaging activities of approximately 40 employees, ensuring close adherence to production schedule. Participate in scheduling activities with other members of the Operations group.
  • Provide leadership to team members and develop personnel for further growth.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP guidelines and SOPs, maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Ensure staff are working in a safe environment and that safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Actively participate in cost, continuous improvement such as 5S and other cross-functional projects.
  • Ensure high level of adherence to weekly/monthly Packaging commits.
  • Ensure that Packaging lines cycle time standards (i.e. units per minute, wash-up, set-up, lot change cycle times etc.) are met and exceeded.
  • Review packaging work orders (PWO) and other product documents such as cleaning & sanitizing logs, housekeeping logs, etc.
  • Work closely and involve line mechanics to meet scheduling requirements to ensure optimal equipment reliability.
  • Lead employee management such as attendance and performance management, safety audits and meetings, shift meetings and shift scheduling.
  • Perform payroll and human resources functions such as managing Time & Attendance (E-time), hiring, coaching and disciplining.
  • Ensure that all SOPs applicable/relating to Packaging Department are current and that all staff is trained in their use.
  • Optimize labour utilization and productivity output to meet the goals of the department.
  • Investigate in-process, product and equipment failure identifying the root cause and corrective actions.
  • Report and complete safety incident reports as required.
  • Maintain inventory of miscellaneous supplies and parts.
  • Support cross-training program.
  • Perform other duties as required or as directed by the Sun Pharma Management group.
  • Participate in developing capital requirements for the department.
  • Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records.
  • Write and lead Non-Conformance Investigations.
  • Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA's).
  • Initiate, and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls.
  • Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)

 

  • Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department I Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day
 Qualifications

 

  • Degree or college diploma in science or engineering technology.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of supervisory experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or related environment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills is a must.
  • Ability to mentor, coach and motivate Packaging staff to achieve highest standards in EHS, Quality and operational efficiency.
  • Strong pharmaceutical cGMP background.
  • Experience working in packaging environment.
  • Management / supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of 5-Safety practices, including WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of electronic systems, i.e. SAP, MES is an asset. Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Self-motivated and with a positive outlook.
  • Ability to analyze, perform root cause analysis and make decisions when required.
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, coaching, employee engagement, attendance and performance management, and safety enhancement.
  • Able to train and motivate crew.
  • Mathematical, scientific and mechanical aptitudes.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Troubleshooting skills: Issues may include the following:
  • Equipment malfunction.
  • Ensuring consistent product quality.
  • Manpower and equipment "bottlenecks."
  • Resolving personnel issues, while maintaining department goals.
  • The Packaging Supervisor must be a resourceful person to identify available resources to help or assist them in dealing with some of the issues/problems. Available resources may include: Production Manager. Compounding Manager, staff from other support departments like QC, Tech Services, etc., SOPs, historical data, etc.
Working conditions
  • May be contacted through telephone during off regular hours regarding "urgent" or emergency issues.
  • Exposed to noise from equipment.
  • Ability to work 8 hour rotational shifts.
  • Working of one Saturday on-site per month is mandatory (day in-lieu to be provided)
  • Work overtime, including weekends, when required.
  • Ability to "juggle" a number of tasks at the same time, multi-tasking

The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $73,500 to $92,000. Actual base compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs which include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; RRSP savings plan; and the employee assistance program.
