The Store Manager will lead the team to deliver on sales, customer service, and personnel goals, while upholding store standards using the many tools and resources available. Your primary objectives will be to provide exemplary customer service, to effectively manage store operations, and to exceed the store’s sales plan.
Key Responsibilities
The Store Manager’s duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Customer Experience and Sales:
    • Create a caring atmosphere for store associates and customers
    • Provide extraordinary service where every customer interaction is valued
    • Lead your team to exceed sales, gold crown, and customer service goals
    • Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues or complaints
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Attract and retain talent by cultivating a positive work environment focused on excellence and enthusiasm
    • Provide ongoing training for store associates using the resources available to ensure everyone has the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles
    • Clearly define and delegate roles and responsibilities. Establish processes for monitoring work and measuring results, providing feedback to team members each day
    • Provide timely and useful information to others in the company
    • Schedule staff to ensure efficient coverage, taking into consideration peak hours and holidays
  • Store Operations:
    • Oversee all aspects of store operations including, but not limited to: timeline management, event planning, shipment processing and merchandising, promotion management, cash handling, payroll budgeting, seamless orders, and administrative tasks.
    • Use point-of-sale and reporting systems effectively to ensure accuracy with inventory, sales, and markdowns
    • Assist with merchandise & supply purchasing when requested
    • Maintain visual merchandising standards
    • Ensure store cleanliness and organization
    • Implement marketing strategies to drive traffic and increase sales
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and company policies and procedures.
    • Address and resolve any safety or operational issues
Basic Qualifications:
All prospective candidates must meet the education/experience and physical demands requirements.
  • Education & Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent or higher PLUS 1+ year of customer service experience preferred; OR 2+ years of retail management; OR 1+ years as a sales associate with Hallmark; OR 6+ months as a Hallmark Store Manager.
    • All the training you need to be successful will be provided. Past retail experience is desired and experience leading or managing others at work is preferred. If you have less experience but are a highly-motivated individual who enjoys a challenge, we encourage you to apply.
  • Physical Demands: 
    • Ability to continuously stand/walk; frequently push/pull; often bend/stoop/crawl/reach above shoulders; climb a ladder; carry up to 40 pounds (e.g. cartons and fixture parts)
    • Tolerance required for noise from products and customers, tolerance required for smells/scents of products (e.g. candles, lotions, etc.)
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the business, including events, holidays, some evenings, and weekends. (The Store Manager typically works one of the two weekend days and has one complete weekend off each month, except in December.)
    • Ability to open or close the store multiple days each week
  • Skills:
    • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
    • Strong leadership and management abilities
    • Utilize effective organization skills
    • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English to continuously communicate with customers, co-workers, vendors, etc. in-person, over-the-phone, and via email
    • Familiarity with basic computer technology including basic functions of Microsoft Office and email; must be eager and willing to learn necessary systems required (e.g. POS system, hand-held device, etc.)
    • Ability to analyze sales data and develop actionable strategies
    • Capable of managing multiple tasks at one time and working in a fast-paced environment
    • Utilize creativity in visual merchandising and display planning
    • Aptitude for working independently with limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of proven success as a retail store manager with a specialty retailer
  • Customer Service experience of 2 years or more; OR 1+ year of retail experience; OR 6+ months of Hallmark experience
  • Hallmark Gold Crown retail experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
Salary Range: From $16.00/hour; Overtime pay is pre-approved for peak periods
Expected Hours: 38-40 per week; 40-42 per week during peak periods
