Summary:

The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting processes, and internal control environment. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across the accounting function, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and company policies. The Senior Manager partners closely with Finance, Operations, Tax, Treasury, and executive leadership to support business objectives, improve financial processes, and drive organizational growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related supporting schedules.
  • Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Direct the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and General Ledger accounting functions to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Review and approve significant accounting transactions, estimates, and journal entries for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Lead the fixed asset accounting process, including capital expenditure accounting, asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and asset reconciliations.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure proper accounting treatment for capital projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statement flux analyses, providing meaningful explanations for significant variances and trends.
  • Support executive leadership through financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations that drive informed business decisions.
  • Lead internal and external audit activities, serving as the primary accounting liaison and ensuring timely completion of audit requests.
  • Oversee Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including control design, documentation, testing coordination, remediation efforts, and process improvements.
  • Evaluate accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, process standardization, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system implementations, ERP enhancements, acquisitions, and other strategic projects.
  • Assist with tax compliance activities, payroll accounting reviews, and W-2 reporting requirements as needed.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to support a strong internal control environment.
  • Perform complex financial analyses, special projects, and ad hoc reporting requests for senior leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience leading accounting teams.
  • Public accounting experience and/or publicly traded company experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing, industrial, or renewable energy industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in a SOX-compliant environment required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong understanding of SOX compliance requirements and audit processes.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong business acumen.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
