Job description

Step into a leadership role where precision, performance, and people matter. At Solar Atmospheres, we're seeking a skilled Operations Manager to oversee our Chesterfield, MI facility. In this role, you'll work closely with the President to drive operational excellence across production, maintenance, and shipping while fostering a motivated, high-performing team and ensuring quality standards and customer satisfaction remain at the forefront.

This role will regularly work Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4:30 pm; however, flexibility will be needed as we are a 24/7 operation with 5 shifts at our Chesterfield, MI location.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee Daily Operations: Manage heat treating, brazing, shipping/receiving, lab, and maintenance departments to ensure smooth workflows and timely order completion.
  • Production Scheduling: Coordinate furnace schedules for maximum efficiency and ensure production meets customer deadlines.
  • Quality Assurance: Partner with Quality teams to maintain compliance with industry standards (ISO, AS9100, Nadcap) and deliver top-tier service.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure hardware, replacement parts, and shipping supplies are stocked to support production and maintenance needs.
  • Shipping & Receiving: Guarantee accurate inspection and shipment of orders in line with customer requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify deficiencies, implement corrective/preventive actions, and lead process improvements.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain a safe work environment and uphold company housekeeping standards inside and outside the facility.
  • Team Leadership: Hire, train, motivate, and evaluate shop employees while fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
  • Customer Focus: Manage delivery timelines and special requirements to exceed customer expectations.
  • Training & Development: Organize safety, quality, and job-related training programs for all employees.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years in heat treating or 8+ years in metals manufacturing
  • 3+ years of proven leadership experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, NADCAP, and safety regulations
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Bonus: Degree in business, metallurgy, engineering, or manufacturing related field
