Job description

Sola Academy by Fusion, an ISBE-approved therapeutic day school serving students with disabilities in grades 6-12, has an opening for a Special Education Case Manager.
This position ensures that the school is appropriately serving students based on their individualized education plans (IEPs) and fosters strong partnerships among families, staff, school districts, and outside providers. The Case Manager helps families feel supported, assists teachers in delivering a successful social, emotional, and academic experience, and supports the leadership team in upholding compliance with all special education requirements.
What You'll Do:
  • Gather and analyze information from outside professionals and referring districts, and collaborate to ensure effective IEP implementation.
  • Read all psychological and educational evaluations and IEPs for enrolled students and summarize relevant information into student profiles in Salesforce.
  • Maintain relevant medication logs and update student profiles to inform staff of potential impacts and side effects.
  • Coordinate with external service providers and school districts to schedule IEP meetings and ensure documentation is complete.
  • Stay current on special education laws and services by attending required trainings.
  • Support teachers in understanding various disabilities and implementing creative accommodations to meet student needs.
  • Conduct teacher training and workshops on disabilities, accommodations, modifications, and special education processes.
  • Oversee teacher data collection, ensuring timely submission of quarterly reports, progress monitoring, and IEP drafts.
  • Partner with families to connect them with appropriate internal and external services, ensuring they feel heard and supported
  • Plan and assist with community and parent education events related to serving students with disabilities
  • Hire, onboard, supervise, and develop paraprofessionals and social workers, ensuring compliance with licensure requirements and role expectations.
  • Provide coaching, professional development, and progressive discipline processes to maintain a strong special education support team.
  • Facilitate communication on IEPs and special education best practices across the Sola Academy team.

What We're Looking For:
  • Current Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement covering grades 6-12.
  • Ability to obtain a General Administrative, Principal, or Director of Special Education endorsement.
  • Prior experience as a Special Education Teacher or in a comparable special education compliance role.
  • Expertise in IEP and 504 processes, special education law, and curriculum adaptations for students with disabilities.
  • Ability to mentor as a positive role model and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and knowledgeable in curriculum, assessment, and special education law.
  • Skilled at problem solving, multitasking, and professional communication.
  • Understands learning differences and emotional difficulties.
  • Patient, compassionate, and able to connect with students and families.
  • Able to manage stress, self-regulate during crisis, and maintain a consistently positive attitude.
