Position Overview:

Peachtree Group is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented SBA Underwriter to support the evaluation, structuring, and underwriting of SBA 7(a) and SBA 504 loan transactions. The SBA Underwriter will be responsible for analyzing borrower creditworthiness, financial performance, collateral, cash flow, and compliance with SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while ensuring sound credit decisions and timely execution of loans. The ideal candidate will have experience underwriting SBA loans, strong financial analysis skills, and a thorough understanding of SBA lending guidelines.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite SBA 7(a) and SBA 504 loan requests in accordance with SBA SOP requirements and internal credit policies.
  • Analyze personal and business tax returns, financial statements, cash flow, debt service coverage, liquidity, leverage, and global cash flow.
  • Evaluate borrower credit profiles, management experience, industry risks, and business operations.
  • Assess collateral adequacy, appraisals, environmental reports, and other third-party due diligence.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums and present recommendations to credit committees and lending leadership.
  • Structure transactions to mitigate risk while meeting borrower needs and SBA eligibility requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with SBA regulations, lender policies, and applicable banking laws.
  • Review loan packages for completeness and coordinate with business development officers, processors, closers, and servicing teams throughout the loan lifecycle.
  • Identify and communicate underwriting risks, strengths, mitigants, and recommendations.
  • Maintain productivity standards and meet established turnaround time expectations.
  • Stay current on SBA lending regulations, SOP updates, and industry best practices.
  • Support internal and external audits, quality control reviews, and portfolio monitoring activities as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of SBA underwriting experience, including SBA 7(a) and/or SBA 504 loans.
  • Strong understanding of SBA SOP guidelines, eligibility requirements, and lending regulations.
  • Experience analyzing business financial statements, tax returns, and global cash flow.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with hospitality, franchise, owner-occupied commercial real estate, or business acquisition transactions.
  • Knowledge of SBA lending platforms and loan origination systems.
  • Previous experience working with preferred SBA lenders (PLP).
  • Credit analyst or commercial underwriting background.
