Job description

The group you'll be a part of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
The Mechanical engineering position within Mechatronics Engineering is part of the centralized Global Product Engineering Group. Lam Mechatronics Engineering has a proven track record of rapid innovation in semiconductor equipment automation including VORTEX™ wafer handling robots, process chamber mechanisms, and Lam Equipment Intelligence smart devices. As a Mechanical Engineer within Mechatronics, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact across multiple Lam product groups.
What you'll do
  • Responsible for aspects of mechanical design, conceptualization, analysis, evaluation, early builds, assembly outsourcing and ongoing performance of one or more Mechatronics products - working closely with a firmware/controls resource throughout.
  • Work within cross functional, multidiscipline technical teams to develop comprehensive product specifications, evaluate performance, and ultimately deliver timely solutions
  • Utilize Mechatronics' internal machinist and other rapid prototyping equipment to demonstrate and/or learn from quick design iteration. Spend a substantial portion of your time hands-on in the Mechatronics lab, working with products.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure parts can be manufactured to performance and cost objectives.
  • Help drive technical innovation.
  • File invention disclosures for evaluation of novel ideas.
  • Develop material (presentation and supporting data) for design reviews following Lam processes.
  • Develop test criteria and equipment for automated test of products and provide necessary engineering support to ensure successful transition to high volume manufacturing.
  • Conduct failure analysis and drive continual improvement throughout life of product.
  • Follow 8D methodology for repeat and/or complex problems.
  • Manage multiple priorities/projects simultaneously to ensure commitments are met.
  • Address safety issues quickly and escalate to management as needed.
  • Respond quickly to customer requests and escalations.
  • Anticipate customer needs for solutions and information.
  • Contribute to Mechatronics Engineering's best-known methods database.
  • Occasional travel may be required - international and domestic

Who we're looking for

  • Strong design background coupled with solid engineering skills.
  • Extremely knowledgeable using 3D CAD tools such as CREO, NX, etc.
  • Proven analytical skills including modeling analyses (simulations) using FEA applications such as Creo Simulation, COMSOL, etc.
  • Capable of designing test stands, instrumenting, data acquisition and a desire for hands-on testing, daily.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance.
  • Strong familiarity with machining practices and Sheetmetal fabrication and other manufacturing methods
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing (3D printing) and other rapid prototyping methods.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Strong skills and experiences in problem solving, time and priority management, communication, and project management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill.

Preferred qualifications
  • A demonstrated passion for Mechatronics in the form of robotics mechanical design, industrial automation, and/or sensing/computer vision
