Job Summary:

The Pile Buck performs skilled marine construction work in support of pile driving, structural, and related field operations. Working as part of a marine construction crew, this position assists with the installation and removal of piling, rigging, crane operations, material handling, operation of work skiffs, basic fabrication, and other activities required to safely and efficiently complete project work.

Education/Certifications:

·        High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

·        Valid Driver’s License required

·        Current Rigger’s card required

·        Current boaters card required

·        First Aid & CPR cert required

Experience:

·        Previous pile driving, marine construction, heavy civil, or related craft experience preferred

·        Experience working from barges, vessels, docks, or active marine construction sites preferred

·        Experience with pile driving, rigging, crane operations, welding, carpentry, or related construction activities preferred

Skills:

·        Working knowledge of pile driving operations and common pile hammer systems, including diesel, air, hydraulic, and drop hammers

·        Working knowledge of construction rigging, including slings, chokers, spreader bars, shackles, and load blocks

·        Ability to safely rig, handle, position, and install piling and construction materials

·        Ability to read and follow basic plans, drawings, measurements, and project specifications

·        Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment

·        Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with field crews

·        Ability to recognize hazards and respond appropriately during changing field conditions or emergencies

·        Ability to work effectively as part of a crew in fast-paced marine construction environments

·        Ability to safely operation a work skiff and maneuver small boats in support of marine construction operations

·        Basic fabrication skills, including measuring, fitting, cutting, and assembling construction materials

·        Ability to perform a variety of construction and general labor tasks, including rock drilling, jackhammering, core drilling, tying rebar, and building concrete forms

Responsibilities:

·        Perform pile driving and marine construction work as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent

·        Prepare, rig, position, install, and remove concrete, steel pipe, H-pile, timber, and sheet piling

·        Assist with the setup, assembly, and operation of pile driving, crane, and hoisting equipment

·        Rig, receive, unload, move, and stage materials and equipment used in marine construction operations

·        Assist with positioning pile leads, hammers, templates, and other pile driving components

·        Perform site preparation and structural work associated with retaining walls, bulkheads, foundations, bridges, piers, and other marine structures

·        Support movement and setup of barges, floating equipment, and marine work platforms

·        Perform rigging, welding, cutting, carpentry, and other craft-related work as qualified and assigned

·        Inspect tools, rigging, equipment, and work areas prior to use and report unsafe or defective conditions

·        Follow project plans, specifications, work procedures, and direction from field leadership

·        Comply with all Ballard Health, Safety & Environmental policies and applicable safety requirements

·        Safely operate work skiffs and other small boats used to support marine construction operations
