Manager Robotics Engineer Localization information

What are some common challenges faced by a Manager Robotics Engineer specializing in Localization, and how can they be addressed?

Managers in robotics engineering localization often encounter challenges such as integrating localization algorithms with real-world sensor data, ensuring robust performance in diverse environments, and managing cross-functional teams with varied expertise. Addressing these challenges requires strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving, and fostering close collaboration between software developers, hardware engineers, and research scientists. Regular team meetings, continuous testing in different scenarios, and investing in professional development can help ensure successful project outcomes and innovation in localization solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Robotics Engineer Localization, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Robotics Engineer Localization, you need expertise in robotics, localization algorithms (such as SLAM), and a relevant engineering degree, often paired with experience in project or team management. Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System), C++/Python programming, and simulation tools like Gazebo, as well as certifications in robotics or project management, are commonly required. Strong leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you lead teams and coordinate complex, multidisciplinary projects. These skills ensure the successful development and deployment of accurate localization solutions in robotics systems, driving innovation and team performance.

What does a Manager Robotics Engineer Localization do?

A Manager Robotics Engineer Localization leads teams that develop and refine the technology enabling robots to determine their precise position and orientation in various environments. This role involves overseeing projects focused on algorithms and systems for mapping, navigation, and sensor fusion. The manager collaborates with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure robust and efficient localization solutions for robotic applications, such as autonomous vehicles or warehouse automation. Responsibilities also include mentoring staff, setting technical direction, and ensuring projects meet performance and safety standards.

What is the difference between Manager Robotics Engineer Localization vs Robotics Engineer Localization?

Job description

Make complex automation sing—night after night

You step onto the platform at shift start, scan the wall of dashboards, and immediately spot where an automated adapter, a vertical lift, or a robotic vehicle needs attention. You radio the floor, align with cross‑functional partners, and guide the system back to peak performance. That’s a typical evening for a Robotics Control Center Systems Engineer at Symbotic.

Based in our Customer Operations team, you’ll help run daily operations of our robotic material handling system, collaborate closely with onsite customers, and push for best‑in‑class quality, safety, and throughput. You’ll also spearhead continuous improvement and root‑cause initiatives that keep our system evolving.

Time type

Full time

Available shifts
  • Thursday – Saturday & every other Wednesday: 5:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.
  • Sunday – Tuesday & every other Wednesday: 5:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.
What a shift can look like
  • Continuously monitor the health of automated adapters, vertical lifts, and autonomous robotic vehicles, intervening before issues escalate.
  • Triage and resolve advanced system and operational problems; escalate to support teams when production is impacted.
  • Translate technical findings into clear, concise updates for site teams and customers.
  • Document incidents, analyze root causes, and partner with engineering to implement durable fixes.
  • Train and assist operators across the end‑to‑end stack: automated adapters, vertical lifts, robotic vehicles, warehouse management systems, and related IT.
  • Backfill key on‑site Symbotic roles when needed to keep operations steady.
  • Drive initiatives for continuous improvement, standardization, and optimization of the warehouse automation solution.
  • Model rigorous safety practices every day, aligning with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years working with automated systems.
  • Hands‑on mechatronics aptitude, including assembly, operation, and troubleshooting of robotics and electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity and willingness to learn: PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens), robotics (ABB), and software/OS/languages such as SQL, Linux, and Python.
  • Composure under pressure and comfort shifting priorities quickly.
  • Curiosity, a collaborative spirit, and a strong sense of urgency.
Work environment and physical expectations
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by car and/or plane to customer locations.
  • Own a credit card and manage bi‑weekly expense submissions to Symbotic for reimbursement.
  • Frequent walking and reaching; standing, climbing/balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed.
  • Comfort working at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches; regular proximity to high railings.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols, including Lock out tag out and fall protection.
  • Where required (e.g., active construction sites), wear PPE: hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection (e.g., safety harness).
  • Expect steep stairs and frequent stair travel within the automation structure.
  • Indoor environment with protection from weather but not temperature; capable of working in 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
Compensation and benefits

Base salary range for this location: $71,000.00 – $97,900.00. Actual base pay depends on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total rewards package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), PTO, and other benefits.
