Job description


Staples is focused on our customer and our community. As Manager, Operations, you will be responsible for leading operational programs and support functions that drive execution across the retail business. This role provides ownership of the Travel Services program while also supporting broader operational functions, business initiatives, and strategic priorities.
You will lead a team dedicated to supporting stores and field leadership, driving operational excellence through process improvement, business simplification, and program execution. This position focuses on ensuring operational programs are scalable, sustainable, communicated properly, and aligned with current retail objectives and organizational strategy.
This role will also be responsible for vendor partnership management, operational support functions, business process governance, and the successful execution of new initiatives or projects as business needs evolve.
Ownership:
  • Manage day-to-day operations of Travel Services and assigned operational programs.
  • Provide ownership and oversight of functional operations, support infrastructure, compliance processes, and business controls.
  • Develop programs, tools, and processes that drive execution, operational excellence, and simplification for store and field leaders.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and adoption of tools and resources that support business execution.
  • Maintain and improve core operational procedures and support structures for retail stores.
  • Lead an operations support team and prioritize efforts to meet business, sales, service, and execution goals.
  • Facilitate resolution and escalation of operational, technical, vendor, and process-related issues.
  • Support training, documentation, and communications that enable effective execution across stores and field leadership.
  • Lead new initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Partnerships & Support:
  • Partner with business owners to operationalize initiatives and business strategies.
  • Develop process improvements to simplify operations and improve execution.
  • Lead communication of business updates, priorities, and objectives.
  • Leverage business results, operational metrics, and field feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with field leaders to drive adoption and execution of activities under scope.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to stores, field teams, and business partners.
  • Manage vendor and service provider relationships to support performance expectations and service standards.

Program Rollouts:
  • Support implementation of new business programs, services, operational processes, and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with Communications to review and streamline field messaging.
  • Use appropriate vehicles to drive field adoption, execution, and compliance.
  • Maintain business-related How-to Guides, operational procedures, training documentation, and support resources.

Essential skills and experience:
  • 5-8+ years of experience in retail operations, business management, or other applicable field.
  • Proven operational leadership and program management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence outcomes across functional areas.
  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills across functional areas.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated individual and comfortable leading discussions in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience developing guides, presentations, and training materials.
