Job description

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Blue Ridge Lumber is currently recruiting for a Woodlands Manager.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Woodlands Manager is a leadership position. The incumbent is a key member of the Woodlands team, providing guidance and strategic direction to a dynamic staff. The position requires strong management, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a solid level of business acumen. Developed technical knowledge of woodland operations to promote ongoing improvements in safety and environmental compliance, along with production and efficiency initiatives, is essential, as is the ability to cope with change and be open to new and innovative solutions.

The ideal Woodlands Manager will also have a keen interest in advancing our relationships with Indigenous communities and contractors, along with the capacity to handle complex situations in a fast-paced work environment.

You'll do:

  • Main responsibility is to supply timber to our facilities in a safe and environmentally sustainable, cost-effective manner.
  • Recruit, build, and manage a high-performance team.
  • Design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to manage business needs and meet both existing and future requirements.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with local Indigenous communities.
  • Evaluate and manage the performance of the woodlands staff through regular, detailed reporting and feedback systems.
  • Develop, propose, manage and monitor budgets for all woodland activities.
  • Manage operational costs, conducting near- and long-term financial forecasts.

You have:

  • RPF or RFT designation with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals, or have the credentials to acquire the designation
  • Prior experience in a Superintendent role in the Forest Industry
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities and contractors.
  • Proven project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven leadership, vision, dedication & ability to mentor a team.
