Mechanical Engineering Manager

Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager

Location: Boise, ID - Relocation can be provided!

Salary: $115k-$130k+ depending on experience and education
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our mechanical engineering team in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality products for manufacturing environments. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people and project management responsibilities to ensure timely product development, manufacturability, and continuous improvement across our product portfolio. The ideal candidate will drive engineering best practices, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor engineers to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers; set priorities, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development.
  • Oversee product development from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Manage CAD workflows and standards, including hands-on use and review of SolidWorks and DraftSight models, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test teams to ensure smooth transition from design to production and to resolve production issues.
  • Define and enforce design controls, design for manufacturability (DFM), tolerance analysis, and GD&T practices.
  • Plan and manage project schedules, resources, budgets, and risk mitigation to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate prototyping, testing, and validation activities, and drive design iterations based on test results and feedback.
  • Engage with suppliers and contract manufacturers to select components, negotiate specifications, and support supplier development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, cost-reduction efforts, and implementation of engineering best practices and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with proven product development background
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools, specifically SolidWorks and DraftSight, including modeling, assembly management, and drawing production.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, prototyping, and supplier collaboration.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and mechanical testing methodologies.
  • Experience managing projects, schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams; familiarity with Agile or stage-gate processes is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a track record of mentoring and developing engineering talent.
  • Preferred: certifications such as PE or PMP, experience with PLM systems, and familiarity with quality standards (ISO, AS9100, etc.).
  • Desired skills: Manufacturing, CAD, SolidWorks, DraftSight, Engineering, Mechanical.
