Job description

The R&D Design Engineer will be responsible for the development, design, validation and continuous improvement of products and engineered solutions from concept through production release. This role collaborates cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, sales and customers to deliver technically sound, cost-effective and manufacturable products that meet performance, regulatory and customer requirements.
*The role will be remote with potential to relocate on-site once the research and development center has been opened (expected in 2027).
Key Responsibilities
New Product Design & Development
  • Design and develop new products, assemblies and components from concept through commercialization
  • Perform engineering analysis including mechanical, thermal, electrical and manufacturability assessments as applicable
  • Support prototype development, testing and validation analysis activities
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize product design for cost, quality, reliability and production efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements and customer specifications
  • Maintain project schedules and communicate technical progress to stakeholders and leadership
  • Interface with customers and suppliers regarding the technical requirements, design reviews, and project execution

Test and Modelling
  • Support with build out of test facilities at new R&D center
  • Collaborate with academia to create network for specialized testing and design studies
  • Develop standard requirement validation plans to guide product development testing plans

Product Standards and Compliance
  • Generate and maintain engineering drawings, models, bills of materials, specifications and technical documentation
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, process capability and cost reduction
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA/PFMEA activities and engineering change management
  • Support troubleshooting, product maintenance and corrective actions related to product or manufacturing issues

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or related Engineering discipline
  • 3+ Years Experience in engineering or product development in manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX
  • Familiarity with UL, IEC, NEMA, ASTM and applicable industry standards
  • Knowledge of GD&T, stacked tolerances and design-for-manufacturing methods
  • Experience interpreting engineering blueprints and electrical diagrams
  • Experience working on larger project initiatives with high level communication skills
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and stage-gate development processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Capability to travel up to ~10% of the time
