Position Overview

Giffen Consulting Ltd. (Giffen) is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer (intermediate to senior level) with a mining and/or heavy industrial background on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical engineering deliverables
  • Complete calculations to support project deliverables
  • Select and size mechanical equipment
  • Prepare or check equipment data sheets, MEL, valve lists, and line lists
  • Check and seal drawing packages
  • Write or review technical reports, engineering specifications, and construction specifications
  • Provide project deliverables as per project schedule
  • Coordinate across disciplines and departments for project implementation, design, and inspection
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems for operating mine sites and heavy industrial facilities
  • Support cost estimating with reviews of project deliverable based on proposal scope
  • Present project designs, concepts, and progress updates to clients and stakeholders
  • Ability and willingness to travel for site visits as required


Qualifications+ Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Canadian university
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
  • 4+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer on Mining & Mineral processing, Heavy Industrial Projects
  • Familiar with greenfield and brownfield mining projects
  • Knowledge of ASME and CSA codes, industry standards, and regulations
  • Experienced with selection and sizing for rotating equipment, pump boxes and chutes, conveyors, HVAC, and Fire protection
  • Ability to present project deliverables and concepts to clients
  • Excellent organizational, technical, and communication skills
  • Desire and drive with a love for lifelong learning
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
