Job description

As Manager, Data Science at Spectrum, you’ll lead a talented team using sophisticated techniques to uncover insights, predict trends, and recommend improvements across our operations. Your expertise will guide actionable strategies that enhance customer experiences and shape the future of our business.


How You’ll Make an Impact   

  • Lead the analytics lifecycle by supervising, developing, and coaching a high-performing team to deliver actionable insights
  • Apply advanced analytic techniques to create causal inferences, predictions, and recommendations for business process improvements
  • Survey and manage varied data sources including relational databases, Hadoop, flat files, and external sources for analytic relevance
  • Execute data profiling, pre-processing, and exploratory analysis to ensure robust data preparation and modeling
  • Formulate problems, analyze requirements, plan projects, and select appropriate algorithms for execution
  • Interpret model results, communicate findings, and present recommendations to audiences with varying analytical backgrounds
  • Manage follow-ups and execution of suggested actions to ensure measurable improvements

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum   

Required Qualifications   

Education  

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or other quantitatively-focused field

Experience   

  • 6+ years statistical analysis
  • 3+ years business analysis
  • 3+ years SQL, R, or SAS programming
  • 2+ years internal client relationship management
  • Experience with R and/or Python, including relevant packages, supporting advanced analytics
  • Experience with relational databases using SQL and data stored in complex schemas
  • Some experience in telecommunications or two other consumer-based industries


Skills   

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English 
  • Strong logical and analytical skills
  • Solid theoretical foundation in modeling processes with various algorithms
  • Proficient in data profiling, distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing
  • Skilled in holdout testing and cross-validation
    Advanced data pre-processing and exploratory data analysis
  • Regression and classification using linear models, GLMs, and tree-based methods
  • Interpretation of model results including causality and multicollinearity
  • Effective synthesis and presentation skills
  • Basic understanding of data architecture, data warehouse, and data marts

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or other quantitatively-focused field

Experience

  • 2+ years management or leadership experience

Skills

  • Experience with Teradata SQL, UDFs, interpreting explain plans, performance tuning, and database catalog
  • Operations-research expertise, especially in large labor operations such as field ops, technical support, and sales
  • Background with Cable systems and operations
  • Experience with Hadoop, especially HIVE and Spark
  • Familiarity with SAS, SPSS, Alteryx, Linux
  • Knowledge of text analysis and text mining
  • Familiarity with open-source ecosystems for R, Python, and Hadoop

The base pay for this position generally is between $98,900.00 and $175,300.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
