Manager Project Manager information

What does a project manager do?

A Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. They coordinate the efforts of team members, manage resources, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Project Managers also identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure that project objectives are achieved according to the defined scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by a bachelor’s degree and experience in project management. Familiarity with project management software (like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are commonly expected. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and adaptability set exceptional project managers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope, and fostering effective teamwork.

What are some common challenges faced by project managers in balancing leadership and project delivery responsibilities?

Manager Project Managers often juggle the dual responsibilities of overseeing a team of project managers while also ensuring successful delivery of complex projects. A common challenge is allocating sufficient time to support team development and mentorship without compromising project deadlines or quality. Additionally, they must ensure clear communication across multiple stakeholders and resolve resource conflicts proactively. Balancing strategic oversight with hands-on project problem-solving is key, and effective delegation and time management are essential to thrive in this role.

Job description

Position Title: Project Manager
Salary Range: $115,000-$170,000 / Year, DOE
Build high-profile projects in Hawaii without sacrificing your life outside of work. This Project Manager opportunity is with an established specialty subcontractor focused on commercial metal framing and drywall projects, including luxury hospitality, high-rise residential, retail, and office renovations. The Project Manager will take ownership of larger, complex projects from post-estimate handoff through completion, managing budgets, change orders, schedules, field coordination and overall project performance.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of direct metal framing and drywall project management experience, has successfully managed projects in the $5M-$10M+ range, and knows how to keep complex jobs moving while building strong relationships with field teams, general contractors, and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial metal framing and drywall projects from post-estimate handoff through successful completion
  • Oversee an average of 2-3 active projects while maintaining control of budgets, schedules, documentation and project priorities
  • Review completed estimates, develop project budgets and manage financial performance throughout the life of each project
  • Price and manage change orders, scope adjustments and other project changes that arise during construction
  • Lead larger, long-term projects ranging from hospitality renovations to high-rise and ground-up developments
  • Coordinate with project engineers, field teams, general contractors and internal leadership to keep projects on schedule and resolve issues quickly
  • Visit active job sites as needed while managing the majority of project planning, coordination, and administration from the main office

Requirements
  • 5+ years of project management experience within the metal framing and drywall industry
  • Proven experience managing commercial construction projects in the $5M-$10M+ range
  • Strong background in high-rise, hospitality, or similarly complex commercial projects
  • Ability to manage project budgets, change orders, schedules and multiple active jobs with minimal oversight
  • Experience working with On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid or similar construction project management and estimating systems preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across office and field teams
  • Degree is not required when supported by strong, relevant industry experience

Benefits
  • Relocation assistance and housing support available for qualified candidates
  • 100% company-paid PPO healthcare coverage for employees and their dependents
  • Generous company-funded SEP retirement plan with employer contributions that can equal approximately 20-30% of salary
  • Profit-sharing opportunities and discretionary bonus potential
  • 2 weeks of PTO with the potential for three weeks based on experience, increasing to three weeks after five years
  • Strong work-life balance with limited overtime and a lighter schedule between Christmas and New Year's

If you know metal framing and drywall, have successfully led major commercial projects, and are ready to build your career in Hawaii, apply today and bring your experience to a company that will give you room to make an impact and grow.
