Job description

Position: Project Manager - [Capital Facilities and Construction Projects]
Location: Welch, Minnesota 55089
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Contract Duration: 12-Months
Pay Rate: $100/hr. - $103/hr.
Per Diem: $178/day 7-Days Per week
System One is seeking Project Manager level IIl to support capital facilities and construction projects at our clients' nuclear generating facilities. This role delivers upgrades, equipment replacements, building/facility modifications, long-term plan development, and other capital improvements. Projects typically range from $100K to multi-million-dollar investment levels and require strict adherence to nuclear, regulatory, and safety protocols.
This position manages 5-10 concurrent projects, coordinating internal stakeholders, engineering, maintenance, construction, contractors, and vendors while ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage full lifecycle ("cradle to grave") execution of facilities, construction, and capital improvement projects.
  • Develop and maintain scopes of work, schedules, budgets, long term project plans, and funding requests.
  • Lead project controls activities including cost tracking, forecasting, variance analysis, documentation, and reporting.
  • Interface daily with plant stakeholders: engineering, maintenance, operations, supply chain, controls, finance, and leadership.
  • Source, contract, manage, and coordinate suppliers and external contractors.
  • Prepare and deliver project presentations to leadership, including authorization and funding approvals.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and plant observations for risk mitigation, constructability, and issue resolution.
  • Support risk management, quality assurance, safety compliance, and nuclear regulatory expectations.

Work Environment & Schedule:
  • Primarily onsite at the assigned nuclear facility (Prairie Island or Monticello).
  • Typical hours: 40 hrs/week, standard business hours.
  • Outage periods require 60 hrs/week, often 12 hour days, 6-7 days/week.
  • Occasional remote work may be approved by the hiring manager.
  • Rare travel for vendor visits, factory acceptance testing, or RFP activities (reimbursed).

Requirements:
  • 5-7 years of facilities, construction, utility, power plant, or commercial nuclear power project management experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects ? $1M.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with project controls and variance analysis.
  • Familiarity with PMI/PMBOK (Waterfall/Predictive) methodologies.

Ability to obtain unescorted nuclear access, which includes:
  • Federal background investigation
  • Fitness for Duty testing (drug & alcohol)
  • Compliance with NRC Access Authorization requirements
  • U.S. citizenship (required).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Construction or Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Nuclear) from an ABET accredited program.
  • Commercial nuclear or utility/power plant experience.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle Unifier, Workday/UKG, MS Project, or Primavera P6.
