Job Description:

The Project Controls group is part of the DA Project Support team and consists of Project Controls Analysts (PCAs), Project Accountant Administrators, Capital Reporting Analysts, and Project Governance. The group is responsible for the financial monitoring, control, and reporting of system and customer-funded projects, including AESO Direct Assign (DA) and Behind-the-Fence transmission projects, throughout the full project lifecycle from development and execution to closeout.

The Project Controls Analyst reports to the Manager, Project Support – DA and plays a key role in supporting the execution of AltaLink’s Early Development and Behind-the-Fence DA portfolio. The PCA maintains project financial data, performs cost control activities, and collaborates closely with Project Management, Finance, Regulatory, and Procurement. The role also interfaces with external consultants, contractors, and EPC service providers, as required. The PCA provides critical support to Project Managers, functional teams, and management to ensure project costs are accurately managed, governance requirements are met, and project deliverables, schedules, and financial objectives are successfully achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Setup and maintain projects in SAP by defined standards;
  • Prepare and ensure applicable financial project controls for: project set-up, estimates, forecasts, billings and project close-out;
  • Ensure compliance with AltaLink, Regulatory and GAAP accounting standards and policies;
  • Interface with Project Managers, Delivery Teams and vendors to ensure alignment of cost estimates and cost forecasts with schedules. Perform cost analysis, report on financial performance, and assist with risk assessment and advise Project Managers on suitable cost allowances and cost category tracking;
  • Prepare and ensure the integrity of project cost reports issued by AltaLink;
  • Ensure execution of change control management follows AltaLink procedures;
  • Conduct project cost performance assessments. Adjust project forecasts, identify where budgets and milestones are at risk, and assess follow-up on remedial actions;
  • Prepare monthly status reports for project and program reviews; and
  • Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary Degree or related combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience managing complex transmission customer/system projects;
  • Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and SAP modules: Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance;
  • EPC/EPCm experience preferred;
  • Experience with accounting practices and GAAP in a regulatory environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Conversant with accounting practices in a regulated Utility;
  • Ability to recognize improvement opportunities and suggest resolutions;
  • Interact effectively with a variety of team members under tight schedules;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
  • Strong organizational/time management skills;
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of frequently changing priorities.
  • Produce accurate, consistent, high-quality results;
  • Experience in quick and accurate data manipulation from various data sources to produce the required reporting formats; and
  • Proven record of good attendance and performance.
