Manager Programming information

What does a programming manager do?

The duties of a programming manager vary significantly depending on the industry in which they work. For example, a programming manager who works for a museum or conference center plans the schedule of events and content for conventions, group visits, recreation, and educational initiatives. A programming manager in the music or TV industry plans content such as event coverage based on broadcast length, time available, and community needs in collaboration with other professionals who prepare the programming schedule. An IT programming manager has more project management responsibilities with a broader scope, including directing multiple application projects and initiatives from a high-level perspective.

What does a Manager Programming do?

A Manager Programming oversees the planning, development, and scheduling of program content for an organization, often in media, broadcasting, or technology fields. They coordinate with teams to create engaging and effective programming that aligns with the organization's goals and audience needs. Responsibilities typically include managing budgets, supervising staff, and analyzing audience data to inform programming decisions. They play a crucial role in ensuring the success and quality of the content delivered.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Programming?

To thrive as a Manager Programming, you need expertise in software development, project management, and a strong understanding of programming languages, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Git, and Agile methodologies, as well as certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master, are commonly required. Leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial for managing teams and delivering projects successfully. These skills ensure efficient project execution, effective team collaboration, and the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

How does a Manager Programming typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver successful projects?

A Manager Programming frequently works alongside product managers, designers, and quality assurance teams to ensure that project goals are met efficiently and effectively. They coordinate timelines, facilitate clear communication between departments, and help resolve technical roadblocks. By fostering a collaborative environment, they ensure that development efforts align with business objectives and user needs. This role often involves regular meetings, progress updates, and negotiating priorities to keep projects on track.

The Mission: Ecommerce at Fullscript

The ecommerce team is the revenue engine powering Fullscript's growth.

We own the end-to-end ecommerce experience, including cart, checkout, payments, taxes, discounts, payouts, and financial reporting.

Every transaction, every order, and every dollar flows through what this team builds. We deliver reliability, security, and correctness - while still learning and moving fast

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the ecommerce pod.

This role blends deep technical leadership with people leadership. You are expected to make critical decisions regarding the team's focus and participate in system design planning. You will stay close to the work while owning systems at the heart of the business and creating the conditions for safe, reliable delivery.

What You'll Do
  • Lead a cross-functional Product Engineering pod responsible for payments
  • Collaborate across Fullscript's engineering org as a technical authority for payments-related decisions
  • Own the checkout experience end to end, from cart to confirmation
  • Design and maintain integrations with payment processing platforms such as Stripe
  • Build and evolve connections to financial systems and fulfillment platforms
  • Ensure payment flows are secure, auditable, and highly reliable
  • Balance feature delivery with the operational rigor required for revenue-critical systems
How We Expect You to Think
  • Treat revenue-critical systems with appropriate care and discipline
  • Build for observability and understand what is happening at every step
  • Understand the business impact of outages, bugs, and degraded performance
  • Know when to move deliberately and when it is safe to move faster
  • Own the full lifecycle from design through production operations
What You Bring
  • Experience leading ecommerce or transaction-critical systems
  • Understanding of payment integrations such as Stripe or similar platforms
  • Technical depth and product judgment to guide senior engineering conversations across architecture, system design, reliability, scalability, and technical tradeoffs
  • Experience planning and executing platform modernizations, or large refactors in production systems
  • Experience directly managing engineers, including coaching, performance management, and career development
  • Proven ability to partner closely with finance and operations stakeholders
What We Can Offer You
  • Generous PTO and competitive pay
  • Fullscript's RRSP match program for financial health
  • Flexible benefits package and workplace wellness program
  • Training budget and company-wide learning initiatives
  • Discount on Fullscript catalog of products
  • Ability to work Wherever You Work Well*
