Job description

Steel Dynamics

Steel Dynamics (SDI) is a leading industrial metals solutions company, with facilities located throughout the United States, and in Mexico. The company operates using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality products with recycled scrap as the primary input. Steel Dynamics is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metal recyclers in North America, combined with a meaningful downstream steel fabrication platform. The company has also recently added aluminum operations, further diversifying its product offerings to supply aluminum flat rolled products with higher recycled content to the countercyclical sustainable beverage can industry, in addition to the automotive and industrial sectors. Steel Dynamics is committed to operating with the highest integrity and to being the safest, most efficient producer of high-quality, broadly diversified, value-added metal products.

Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.

Steel Dynamics has been recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the World's Most Admired Companies on numerous occasions, most recently in 2025. This recognition reflects the exceptional character, commitment, and determination of our teams across the organization. It is the passion, innovation, and dedication of our employees—to one another and to a culture of excellence—that drive SDI to consistently achieve the highest standards of operational and financial performance.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join SDI in a highly visible cross-functional role for external and internal financial reporting, as well as operational initiatives. This important role will actively participate in the leadership of our financial reporting processes throughout the company. The Manager of Financial Reporting will be responsible for an exciting portfolio of responsibilities ranging from periodic financial external reporting to developing new internal reporting techniques and processes. The successful candidate will actively participate within SDI’s financial leadership.

  • Ensure the continued reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of the Company's consolidation processes within OneStream.
  • Manage the Company's SEC reporting process, including the preparation and coordination of:

    • Current Reports on Form 8-K, Form SD (Conflict Minerals), and other SEC filings as required
    • XBRL tagging and related SEC reporting requirements

  • Maintain and enhance the Company's financial reporting control environment, including documenting and monitoring internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and supporting compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Mentor and develop accounting and finance professionals by providing technical guidance, coaching, and career development opportunities.
  • Support executive management through the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of consolidated financial information for internal reporting and decision-making.
  • Assist with acquisition activities, including financial due diligence, purchase accounting, integration planning, and post-acquisition financial reporting.
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated forecasting processes.
  • Lead and participate in special projects focused on improving financial reporting processes, implementing new accounting standards, enhancing reporting systems, and supporting strategic corporate initiatives.
  • Perform additional analyses and ad hoc projects as requested by executive management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience with a publicly traded company, including relevant SEC reporting experience.
    • Strongly preferred: Significant client service experience in public accounting (Big Four preferred), serving in a leadership capacity (e.g., Manager or Senior Manager) and supporting publicly traded clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and public company financial reporting, with demonstrated leadership experience in:
