Job description

Job Description The Assistant Terminal Manager will assist with all operational aspects of the terminal. At the Griffith Terminal this includes around 70 drivers, mechanics and tank washers. The Assistant Terminal Manager will help to oversee an on-site maintenance facility and truck and trailer washing facility. This position reports directly to the Terminal Manager.
Primary Job Duties:
  • Assist the Terminal Manager in the day to day operations of the facilities
    • Responsible for work schedules and workload assignments
    • Address customer related challenges
  • Oversee terminal employees
    • Some travel required
    • Ability to travel to Chicago area locations as needed
    • Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, disciplining and supervising direct reports
    • Ensure terminal practices, policies and procedures are understood and executed
  • Help to maintain employee safety, satisfaction and performance
    • Ensure compliance with all safety related requirements
    • Documentation of performance discrepancies
    • Resolving and/or elevating employee concerns as appropriate
    • Promote clean and safe working conditions
  • Complete required data elements
    • Analyze operations data and reports to promote terminal efficiency
    • Communicate and collaborate with other company terminals and departments
  • Represent the company and carry out duties in a professional manner
Job Requirements
  • Associates degree preferred
  • 2 years of Management experience preferred

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be able to comprehend and comply with policies and comprehend instructions.
  • Must have excellent computer and typing skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees and customers both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to perform basic math
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to move vehicles from time to time.
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently to complete assignments.

Physical Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to wear and use required safety equipment.
  • May be required to perform physical work on occasion and/or for extended periods of time, including: walking/standing, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, climbing, etc.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate any controls and or equipment.
  • May be required to climb trailers if necessary and be comfortable with heights.
  • Must be able to perform required tasks outside in various weather conditions.
