Overview

As one of the nation's leading electric transmission line construction companies, MasTec Power Delivery companies engineer and construct efficient and reliable electrical transmission, distribution, and substation & switchyard systems. Our extensive workforce includes both union and nonunion teams, which, combined with our specialized equipment fleet, allows us to effectively meet our clients' needs for power delivery, emergency restoration, and ongoing maintenance. We've been involved in some of the most challenging and recognizable electric projects across the U.S. From the electric plant to the end users, MasTec's experienced managers and crews consistently deliver transmission, distribution, and substation & switchyard services with an unfailing commitment to safety, integrity, and sustainable practices.  

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Operations for the MasTec West with a strong matrix relationship with the SVP of EHS & Risk Management for Power Delivery and the VP Corporate Safety and will be a key member of the senior MasTec West leadership team and lead efforts to build and maintain an aligned, world class MasTec West programs that includes environmental/sustainability, safety & health, and risk management, including security and compliance.  The VP will be an experienced business leader who can effectively communicate/collaborate at all organizational levels, inspiring a shared vision and clearly linking key strategic themes in aspects of our business and driving an aligned agenda. 


Responsibilities
  • Know/understand the business and its challenges; provide counsel & drive action in matters concerning environmental, health & safety, security, and risk management.
  • Advance relationships at all org levels to ensure EHS&R policies and procedures are being applied and followed. Partner with leadership to share and drive best practices across the organization.
  • Advise and support leadership on all EHS&R activities. Serve as subject matter expert. 
  • Leads rapid response investigations to include incidents and catastrophes while working with counsel, regulators and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead development of the MasTec West EHS & risk strategic plan, including goals, objectives, & initiatives. Develop, monitor, and leverage KPIs/scorecard to drive business improvement.  Prepare regular safety reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership. Report/publish/communicate.    
  • Champion focus on risk assessment, proactive/preventive initiatives & actions, identify & communicate risk exposure, prioritize required risk reduction needs, align resources, & ensure closure of required actions.
  • Communicate incidents, including non-injury incidents to identify root cause(s), trends, key learnings, and implementation of effective corrective/preventive actions.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS&R standards. Stay abreast of regulatory & political changes as well as shifting market dynamics. 
  • Leads proactive risk assessment.
  • Build the team/focus on talent– assist partners in identifying, developing, coaching & mentoring talent; build capable West teams, empowered to build & execute a focused agenda; plan for succession

  • 15+ years of relevant industry EHS & Risk experience (field-based workforce; energy/construction; DOT)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex workplace incidents investigations including regulatory and customer reporting and related operational requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze & interpret data, driving thoughtful recommendations & action
  • Demonstrated organizational development experience – aligning structure, people, & processes; managing transformational change
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, inspire, lead & develop talent
  • BS in Health & Safety Management, Risk Management and/or related field highly desirable; professional designation preferred (CSP, CIH, REM, CESCO or other)
