Job Summary:

This position is for a Manager of Engineering Geology who will provide enterprise-level technical leadership and management of engineering geology and hydrogeology activities across all Bechtel Global Business Units (GBUs). The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Geotechnical and Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) or their designee.  The successful candidate must have strong communication, organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, desire to innovate designs and embrace Bechtel’s diversity, equity & inclusion, leadership, quality, and safety values. The successful candidate will be expected to support multiple projects and will be expected to travel to job sites and other Bechtel and client offices in the U.S. and overseas. This position will be based in Reston, VA

Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

    • Establishing, directing, and governing engineering geology and hydrogeology work across projects and GBUs.
    • Defining and maintaining Bechtel standards, procedures, technical software and best practices for engineering geology and hydrogeology.
    • Providing final technical authority for complex or high-risk geological issues.
    • Supporting project execution through enterprise-level identification and management of geological risks.
    • Coordinating geological activities with engineering, construction, and project management leadership.
    • Providing technical leadership and input to project and proposal estimates, schedules, and staffing strategies.
    • Representing Bechtel in interfaces with clients, partners, and external reviewers on geological matters.
    • Leading, mentoring, and developing engineering geology and hydrogeology staff across projects and business units.
    • Managing day-to-day activities of the Engineering Geology group.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • M.S. degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college and minimum 15 years of progressive related experience or a Ph.D. and minimum 13 years of progressive related experience
  • Extensive experience in engineering geology for major infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and governance for geological investigations and construction support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs
  • Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of the application of Engineering Geology design principles.
  • Professional registration in U.S. (PG, PE).
  • Experience with underground works and complex subsurface conditions.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including those related to the nuclear industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs (including nuclear) and occupational health and safety
  • Experience with licensing, design, and construction of commercial nuclear power plants
  • Demonstrable engagement with professional societies, membership in technical/code committees, publications and presentations
