Job description

Position PurposePurpose Text

This position is responsible for driving performance outcomes by identifying and setting goals, priorities, and performance standards for patient access departments across the Renown Health network, including scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorization, pre-registration, financial clearance, registration and payment collection. The Manager of Patient Access also continuously works to ensure that patient access systems are designed to optimize the patient and family experience with Renown Health Revenue Cycle, by focusing on regulatory compliance, accuracy in team workflows, delivering financial counseling and screening services, and empowering a trained workforce who communicates with expertise and professionalism in all patients, guest, and employee interactions.

Nature and ScopeNature and Scope Text

• Provides direction to Supervisors of Patient Access in the following key areas:

- Scheduling

- Pre-service intake for scheduled services

- Insurance verification

- Pre-registration, registration, and admission activities

- Financial counseling and patient financial clearance

• Reviews patient access policies on a regular basis and makes updates as needed—focusing on continuous process improvement

• Drives standardization efforts in accordance with the organization’s mission

• Assists each facility/department with meeting specific targets and industry benchmarks

• Produces reports and provides recommendations concerning improvement in access management to ensure patient information is complete and accurate for billing and clinical purposes

• Monitors staffing levels across patient access functions and works with individual sites to initiate hiring processes as necessary to maintain appropriate staffing levels

• Meaningfully partners with Supervisors of Patient Access and other future leaders (e.g., Patient Access Senior Team Members) to focus on their professional career development within Patient Access and Renown.

• Collaborates with director to set, monitor, and respond to staff performance standards, and produces regular reports on team members’ productivity

• Ensures registration audits are regularly performed to promote quality and identify root causes of issues

• Creates and implements methodologies to measure and improve customer satisfaction

• Helps manage relationships with vendors responsible for systems and processes associated with the patient access department

• Works closely with shared services and clinical partners to develop and maintain communication systems and applications used across all areas of responsibility

• Partners closely with leadership throughout Revenue Cycle to identify opportunities to support/improve performance toward shared goals

• Ensures understanding, awareness, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and agency laws; regulations; guidelines; and professional standards

• Monitors departmental budget and assists with projecting monthly/annual expenditures

• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and effectively. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or business administration required. 5 years leadership experience in a related field may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree. Master’s degree in related field strongly preferred.

 

Experience:

At least 3 years of progressive leadership responsibilities.

At least 5 years of experience working in a revenue cycle, customer service, business finance, or health insurance environment (patient access experience strongly preferred).

Familiarity with Renown Health current EMR System strongly preferred.
