What We Seek:

Join a dynamic team of development professionals working to advance the mission of the University of New Mexico. The UNM Foundation seeks nominations and applications for the position of Director of Development for the UNM School of Medicine.

The School of Medicine is committed to remain a world-leading institution in three equally valued and inter-related missions of patient care, education, and research.

The successful applicant will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive development program in coordination with the leadership of the UNM School of Medicine, the UNM Foundation staff, and colleagues. The successful applicant will work closely with School of Medicine and UNM Foundation leadership, staff, volunteers, and friends to identify prospects, develop strategies leading to solicitation, and steward major donors. The primary focus of the position is to identify and cultivate prospects and solicit major and planned gifts benefiting the School of Medicine. Cover letter and resume requested.


What We Require:

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets set by the UNM Foundation and at levels defined by the Foundation.
  • Fosters relationships with leadership, faculty, physicians, and scientists to assist in identifying major gift prospects, presenting needs to prospects and implementation of a Grateful Patient Program.
  • Enlists senior management in furthering the unit's fund raising program; provides effective staffing and educates and supports management with respect to their Foundation leadership roles.
  • Collaborates with development colleagues on prospect identification, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities.
  • Effectively utilizes the prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure proper management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with overall objectives.
  • Creates and maintains effective working relationships with all UNM Foundation departments and colleagues to advance our mission and maximize total gift revenue.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travel as appropriate to meet with prospects and donors.


The minimum education and experience required:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution required
  • At least 3 years of successful fundraising and development experience, preferably in higher education.


Compensation Salary Range:

The expected salary for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. This range is an estimate, and the final salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, consideration of any approved geographic salary differential, and alignment with internal equity guidelines to ensure consistency across similar roles.
