About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the Director of Learning & Development oversees the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of learning and development initiatives for approximately 550 attorneys and 400+ staff nationwide. This role leads a national L&D team and partners closely with firm leadership, practice group leaders, and HR to support attorney excellence, leadership readiness, and longterm firm success.

Responsibilities

Learning & Development Strategyย 

  • Develop and execute a firmwide L&D strategy aligned with FMGโ€™s culture, growth, and business objectives
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on learning, development, and workforce capability needs
  • Establish metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and engagement

Attorney Training & CLEย 

  • Oversee attorney onboarding, CLE programs, practice group training, and trial skills development
  • Ensure multijurisdictional CLE compliance, accreditation, tracking, and audit readiness
  • Partner with practice leaders to enhance legal, client service, and business development skills

Staff & Professional Developmentย 

  • Design training and career development programs for staff and business professionals
  • Collaborate with HR and department leaders to address skill gaps and support engagement and retention

Leadership Developmentย 

  • Design and lead leadership programs for partners, emerging leaders, and managers
  • Support mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and career progression initiatives

Team Leadership & Program Managementย 

  • Lead and develop a national L&D team
  • Manage the L&D budget, learning technologies, vendors, and training calendar
  • Implement scalable, engaging learning solutions using modern tools and technologies

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; advanced degree in education, organizational development, human resources, or law strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in learning and development, professional development, or talent development, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and leading large-scale learning programs for attorneys and professional staff.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex, multi-location initiatives.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot and other AI-based learning or productivity tools.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Confident presenter and facilitator with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-directed, proactive, adaptable, and able to work with minimal direction.
