Prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas (e.g., music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, languages, health)

4.3 hours per day/178 days per year/Salary Grade 6 $19.98 per hour (2026-27 Support Salary Table)

NOTE: HOURS ARE APPROXIMATE AND WILL BE WORKED MONDAY - THURSDAY. STUDENTS WILL RANGE FROM KINDERGARTEN TO 6TH GRADE.
GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation period. Prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas (e.g., music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical educations, languages).
Educational Requirements:
1. High school graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
2. Formal education or training in area of specializing preferred.
3. Educational Requirement: The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test will be required at a later date. (This is only required if school is Title I).
Knowledge & Ability:
1. Knowledge of subject matter areas associated with assigned courses.
2. Strong interpersonal skills required for interaction with students, teachers and other school personnel.
3. Ability to effectively teach assigned course subjects.
Job-Related Experience:
1. None required.
2. Experience in working with children preferred.
