Job description

The Assistant Manager of Campus Operations is responsible for performing building maintenance tasks, including preventive maintenance, construction, repair and maintenance of all electrical, lighting, plumbing, painting, masonry, and carpentry work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors, troubleshoots and performs necessary repairs on all electrical systems and their components
  • Performs craft and carpentry installations and repairs throughout the facility
  • Performs miscellaneous building maintenance tasks, such as masonry, painting, lighting, etc.
  • Performs plumbing installations and repairs throughout the facility
  • Monitors and maintains all lighting fixtures throughout the facility, repairing and/or replacing when necessary.
  • Performs regular maintenance and repairs of all doors, locksets and hardware
  • Assists with regulatory compliance, including inspections and thorough record keeping
  • Performs various assigned preventive maintenance tasks regularly
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts electromechanical, pneumatic, audiovisual and electronic exhibits
  • Analyzes problems in order to make accurate repairs to the facility
  • Maintains inventory of maintenance parts, materials, and supplies, including organizing, stocking, etc. for all Facilities maintenance tasks, repairs, and assignments
  • Retains control of and protects MOSI tools and equipment and keeps all tools and equipment in good working condition and repair
  • Projects a positive demeanor at all times towards fellow staff, tenants, guests, vendors, etc
  • Conducts a safe, clean, organized and secure work environment at all times for the benefit of guests, staff, self, and others
  • Follows workplace safety guidelines to minimize personal on-the-job injury
  • Works with Hillsborough County facility staff, vendors and contractors to assure optimum systems performance
  • Provides building maintenance support for on-site tenants
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on exhibits, mechanical, electrical, cabinetry repair, including cleaning, lubricating, painting, etc.
  • Works closely with other MOSI staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors
  • Must be available weekends, weekday schedule is flexible
  • Must be available to work events
  • Other duties as assigned or required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in mechanical, craft, minor construction, and maintenance trades
  • Knowledge of compliancy codes related to various assigned trades
  • Thorough knowledge and experience using plumbing, electrical and carpentry tools
  • Highly skilled in the commercial/ industrial electrical trade
  • Ability to analyze problems and situations and make sound, reasonable decisions
  • Ability to read, translate and interpret drawings and schematics
  • Skilled in the use of safe work practices and procedures using appropriate safety equipment and devices
  • Ability to operate various types of lifts and motorized equipment
  • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with enthusiasm and energy
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to MOSI mission

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Trade School Diploma or Certification in commercial/industrial electrical trade preferred
  • Three to five years of experience preferred in the commercial/ industrial electrical trade preferred
  • Three years of experience preferred in two or more of the following trades- plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and masonry

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to walk, stand, kneel and bend
    • Standing for two to four hours shifts
    • Frequent climbing of stairs, ladders, scaffolding, etc
    • Frequent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, stooping, crouching, kneeling
  • Physical ability to operate all equipment and shop tools without modification
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • The nature of this position involves some office work
    • Sitting for some periods of time
  • Must be able to be near or around loud noises

MOSI is open 363 days a year. Employees may be required to work some special events which may fall on holidays, evenings, and/or weekends.
