Mastec CE&I is now hiring for a Director of Quarry Operations in the Southeast.
This role is responsible for, but not limited to providing leadership, guidance, support, and ensuring achievement of operational and financial objectives for the Mining division.

Responsibilities
  • Manages Quarry division's performance in the areas of sales, operations, employee safety, administration, asset security, and profit and loss to ensure division achieves and exceeds Company goals.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining effective long-term relationships throughout the organization as well as with customers and vendors.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities that instill confidence from both customer, vendors and staff.
  • Ensures high quality customer service is provided consistently within and from the Mining division.
  • Evaluates the Quarry division's performance and recommends new strategies for performance improvements.
  • Maintains, reviews, and verifies job cost history data and communicates highlights to division.
  • Ensures projects have required equipment, personnel, tools and work plan to maximize efficiency.
  • Resolves business issues and ensures all escalated issues are closed.
  • Addresses business inquiries from customers and staff in a professional manner.
  • Recommends cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining productivity and quality of service to customer.
  • Identifies areas of improvements and concerns and accordingly develops action plans.
  • Prepares and manages a budget; reviews financials for accuracy and develops financial forecasts and projections; monitors expenditures and adjusts budget items, as necessary.
  • Negotiates favorable contract and subcontract terms and conditions ensuring there are enough notes and clarifications prior to approval.
  • Negotiates with vendors on purchase orders prior to approval.
  • Ensures monthly billings are prepared, approved and sent to customer in a timely manner.
  • Ensures timesheets and per diems for the division are prepared, coded, approved and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensures expense reports for the division are prepared, coded, approved and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Obtains advice from counsel and risk management on legal and insurance matters as needed.
  • Verifies understanding of plans, specifications, notes, and total concept of the proposed bid offering.
  • Evaluates all proposals prior to submission to verify estimates are based on known and / or historical cost, are consistent, organized and complete.
  • Monitors accuracy of topographical surveys.
  • Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Experience managing a division profit and loss statement and developing budgets.
  • Proficiency with all necessary technological tools, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook with the ability to use other software, as necessary.
  • Experience with ERP systems. Vista Viewpoint preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Projects or other scheduling software.
  • Hard$ / Bid Build or other estimating software.
  • Familiarity with CAD.
  • Familiarity with AGTEK or other earthwork takeoff software.
  • Knowledge of geology / geotechnical.
  • Knowledge of drilling and blasting.
  • Equipment capabilities.
  • Knowledge of surveying.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc., and their impact on project activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Exceptional time management and planning skills to manage and prioritize resources, and people.
  • Ability to negotiate competitive pricing and contracts.
  • Ability to meet timelines, manage multiple projects, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Environmental, DOT, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors, customers, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as topography and gradients, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the work of the Civil and Projects division to ensure the work is
  • accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational expectations and requirements.
  • Provide guidance to team members and monitors their performance, discipline, and attendance on regular
  • basis.
  • Responsible for professional development of division employees.
  • Communicates and acts with a team-oriented mentality.
  • Ensure positive morale and engagement of employees.
  • Communicates and adheres to Company vision and values.
  • Assist in employee recruitment, performance management, promotions, retention, and termination
  • activities.
  • Assist with the development of Engineering Co-ops and interns as a mentor sharing, coaching, and
  • guiding them with knowledge and experience.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience successfully managing projects within the constraints of scope,
  • schedule, budget, and performance requirements, providing technical oversight for projects and all
    related project phases and tasks, including quality assurance reviews.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in the shop or at a jobsite.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Must have and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License with driving record that meets Saiia's risk management guidelines.
  • Must have OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • Must maintain site specific safety certifications based on customer requirements.

TRAVEL:
  • This position reports to the Corporate office and is required to travel to various customer locations and other site locations to bid work 25% of the time.
