A Computer Operator I will be tasked with monitoring and controlling our operational systems. As a computer operator, you will be responsible for operating and troubleshoot mail sorting machines, other sorting equipment, and maintaining equipment inventories. To ensure success as a computer operator, you should have a strong working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and be able to work quickly in high-pressure situations. Ultimately, a top-class computer operator can set up, maintain, and troubleshoot operational issues without impeding productivity. Key Responsibilities: * Prepares equipment for operations by accessing software in computer. * Uses computer terminals to enter commands, activate equipment controls, and adjust settings to produce quality deliverables daily. * Ensures efficient production workflow by attentively following procedural instructions and performing duties immediately. * Monitors and troubleshoots issues regarding production processes, deadlines, and data transmissions across a multiplatform environment. * Responds to program error messages by finding and correcting problems. * Maintains incident logs for all monitored systems. * Assists with inventory control practices including identifying and locating the right products during the delivery process and daily workload; properly storing necessary inventory in designated areas. * Performs other duties as assigned. Skills & Behaviors: * Knowledge of modern operating systems, networking, and MS Office software. * Knowledge of clerical and reporting skills. * Excellent attention-to-detail and problem-solving skills. * Ability to perform accurately, assigned routine operations on various data processing equipment. * Ability to work in high-pressure situations. * Ability to listen effectively and express thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely. * Ability to work well both alone and in highly structured team environment. * Excellent written and verbal communications capabilities with good interpersonal skills. * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more. Education, Training, & Experience: * HS Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of personal computer experience. (required) * Some higher education experience or successful completion of related programs in data processing and computer operations. (preferred) * Two years of experience in business mailroom, print operations, and/or mail sorting experience. (preferred) * Experience with using loading and maneuvering equipment safely and effectively. (preferred) Qualifications: * Candidates who hold an active public trust government clearance are strongly encouraged to apply. * Candidates who are willing to undergo a background investigation to receive a government clearance will be strongly considered. * Candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm daily. (Hours may vary based on workload and candidates must be flexible) * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more. * Must be able to stand for significant periods of time.
