Job description

Sol Systems, a leading national clean energy firm, is looking for a highly capable Manager of Marketing & Communications with strategy, management, social media, writing, graphic design, event planning and execution, and AI expertise. Reporting to the Vice President, Impact, Brand and Communications, the Manager of Marketing & Communications will lead the development and implementation of Sol Systems' marketing and communication strategies. This position involves producing high-quality written, visual, and design content leveraging AI and modern creative tools, leading end-to-end planning of major conferences and community events, overseeing brand management and messaging, pursuing speaking engagement and thought leadership opportunities on behalf of the company and the executive team, and playing an active role in PR/media engagement and communications. The Manager of Marketing & Communications will also manage and ensure cross-functional collaboration, manage timelines and deliverables, and oversee daily administrative tasks.

The Manager, Marketing & Communications' responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications strategies.
  • Produce the majority of creative, design, and content materials, both print and digital, in-house leveraging AI-assisted design and content tools to deliver high-quality work efficiently
  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of email, web, and print marketing campaigns.
  • Produce high quality written materials for publications and stakeholder communications
  • Create and manage marketing collateral, both digital and print.
  • Manage and guide the development of website content, ensuring consistency and high-quality visuals.
  • Write, edit, and publish engaging social media content tailored to Sol Systems' target audiences leveraging and maintaining a content calendar to ensure efficient execution of such strategies.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, manage media relations content, and build media lists.
  • Maintain the Digital Asset Management tool for use in collateral, media content, etc. and in coordination with external partners who benefit from the use of Sol's digital assets.
  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of conferences and events - including logistics, budgets, vendor and venue coordination, attendee lists, on-site management, marketing materials, and speaker requests.
  • Pursue speaking engagements and thought leadership opportunities for executive level staff.
  • Undertake daily administrative tasks and support data management for the marketing & communications team as well as other Sol teams.

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Writing, or related field.
  • A highly capable, self-sufficient generalist focused on the delivery and execution of high-quality work with minimal reliance on outside vendors.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing communications, with strong writing skills and hands-on graphic design, event planning, and execution experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience at a marketing or public relations firm, leading clean energy client work preferred
  • Advanced editing, proofreading, layout/design skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other graphic design tools, plus demonstrated fluency with AI tools for design, writing, and content production.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with teams across departments.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.

Location & Hours: This is a full-time hybrid role and will be based in our Washington, DC, office.

Commitment & Compensation: The base salary for this role is between $90,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position.
