Job Summary:
Progress Residential is a leading property manager of single-family rental homes nationwide, recognized for its people-first culture. The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will manage and mentor a team of software developers, overseeing architecture and operational support for critical platforms while ensuring timely delivery of applications.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and mentor a team of skilled, highly motivated software developers and admins while providing architecture oversight and operational support guidance for custom and business critical platforms used in the enterprise.
• Lead technical design, development, delivery, and operation of applications while managing respective agile work-streams closely.
• Develop effective working relationships with various members of application development, infrastructure, customer support, property management and central operations business teams.
• Balance time between leading the development team, focusing on execution, influencing improvements, thought leadership on the development process, and contributing to the coding and development of applications.
• Build, mentor and lead a team of highly passionate development team members.
• Define product vision, strategy, and roadmap for capacity planning.
• Ensure alignment with the company’s overall strategy and goals.
• Responsible for setting direct report goals, engaging the enterprise for feedback for employees and participate in yearly performance reviews.
• Responsible for product planning, feature prioritization and execution for the entire product lifecycle.
• Implement test-and-learn frameworks to continuously improve and iterate on product capabilities from MVP to national rollout and beyond.
• Facilitate customer research to gain deep empathy and insight into the user journey and problem statement.
• Work closely with software engineering to define product requirements and coordinate resources from key stakeholders.
• Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further optimizing these processes.
• Responsible for developing training and effectively communicate organizational change to all stakeholders.
• Responsible for identifying and tracking KPIs.
• Platform expert to ensure the product benefits the field users.
• Use data-driven decision making to identify opportunities and track product performance.
• Review project requirements & business cases to develop technical designs and lead teams to implement changes.
• Manage change requests to the platform applications such as Salesforce.
• Manage technical delivery of applications to Progress Residential using both in-house development teams as well as consultants on strategic projects.
• Support testing & deployment cycles, including working with project managers to coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) and gathering feedback from pre-release testers.
• Ability to log, track, and manage issues, bugs, and enhancement/ features requests logged in JIRA.
• Participate in software release and post-release activities, including developing designs for proof of concepts.
• Oversee on-going systems administration, maintenance, and support functions.
• Capture, mitigate and /or escalate risks & issues in a timely fashion.
• Ensure development standards and consistency of specifications across sub-systems.
• Write and/or review deliverables, solution blueprints, and architecture documentation.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 7+ years of overall experience in software development.
• 2+ years of management experience in an operational environment overseeing production development teams.
• Experience in resourcing, staffing and delivery of technical solutions with a given budget.
• Excellent organization skills and ability to effectively multitask in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
• ITIL understanding and familiarity with modern application architecture design patterns.
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to communicate effectively with business owners in escalated or tense situations.
• Experience deploying and managing Salesforce Platform a strong plus.
• Experience with entire software development lifecycle (Agile, SDLC, Iterative).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility and positive attitude to achieve tight deadlines.
• Solid detail-oriented documentation skills.
• Strong balance of business and technical skills and ability to 'translate' technical concepts clearly to non-technical decision-makers.
