Title of Position: Web Developer
Reports to Position: Director, Systems & Web Development
Summary

The Web Developer is a key contributor to the design, development, and maintenance of high-impact web applications for Carnegie Hall. This role focuses on both back-end and front-end development, leveraging modern frameworks and best practices to deliver secure, scalable, and user-centric solutions. You’ll collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to build features for transactional websites supporting ticket sales, donations, education, and promotions. The position requires agility, creativity, and a commitment to accessibility, performance, and security in a fast-paced environment.
Tasks & Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in all phases of website development lifecycle including sprint planning, design, implementation, integration, testing, and release.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and customize the Sitecore content management system.  
  • Collaborate with Carnegie Hall stakeholders to conceive website enhancements and manage error resolutions, with a focus on continuous improvement of the customer experience.
  • Manage website performance and process for high traffic ticket on sale events, including waiting room management, server and resource health monitoring and stakeholder communications.
  • Consider cyber-security and data privacy to be among the most important elements of work.
  • Design and develop specifications and documentation for new website features in conjunction with internal and external software development resources.
  • Support eCommerce activities including ticket sales and donations.
  • Provide training and support to staff members for website related activities.
  • Remain current on emerging technologies and security threats.  
  • Recommend improvements to current workflows, processes and efficiencies. 
  • Improve legacy code by refactoring to enhance performance.
  • Implement features in a manner aligned with accessibility standards with an emphasis on excellent user experience
  • Provide expertise on best practice for responsive design including cross browser and mobile and tablet space

Ensure the visual designs of features are in line with the design of the website and Carnegie Hall’s brand guidelines

Skills and Qualifications:
 

  • BA/BS degree with 3 years’ experience in website development and support.
  • Sitecore developer experience preferred.
  • Proven background in web technologies including complete definition from infrastructure to software technologies built on Microsoft technologies and .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET 4.7) and Microsoft Visual Studio.
  • Experience with high transaction environments, user session management, and account management in a load balanced environment with integrated databases.
  • Experience with front-end web development (HTML, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, and XML/JSON)  
  • Experience with AI coding assistance tools; GitHub Copilot, cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini
  • Knowledge of server performance optimization tools (CDN, Datadog)
  • Experience in the integration of off-the-shelf web applications, and integration with third party APIs to interface with the system. 
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server
  • Experience with content management systems, Sitecore a plus.  
  • Experience with ticketing and fundraising applications, Tessitura a plus.
  • Experience with GIT
  • Familiarity with issue tracking software and management, Atlassian suite preferred.
