Join Verizon as we continue to expand our industry-leading network to improve the ways people, businesses, and things connect. As part of this team, you will play a critical role in our network transformation through building a unified network across all lines of business and maintaining the technology that keeps millions of our customers connected.
As our Switch Engineer, you'll be responsible for the advanced installation, operation, and maintenance of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the Mobile Switching Center (MSC). You'll be participating in multi-functional projects and working in a collaborative environment with other passionate, highly-skilled team members to create a positive impact on our business.
  • Coordinating installation, testing and troubleshooting on voice and data network platforms and transmission facilities (dark and lit fiber services, Gigabit Ethernet Services).
  • Assisting with maintaining system applications using traffic and capacity monitoring tools to track errors and keep network performing optimally.
  • Monitoring building automated systems to maintain operation of network equipment such as AC/DC power systems and HVAC systems.
  • Maintaining secure operating environment to ensure vendor safety and network integrity.
  • Updating daily logs with site-specific information to track and maintain network changes.
  • Composing reports for system documentation to maintain environmental compliance and safety standards.
  • Managing repair and maintenance activities within our TAP/SAP's.
  • Supporting migration and integration work in our EBH and RAN networks.

Physical requirements of the job may include, but are not limited to: climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated areas, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 40 pounds, pushing, pulling, grasping, twisting/bending, and crawling, squatting, or kneeling in small spaces.

You're tech savvy and well-versed in all things telecommunications. Working independently is as comfortable for you as being part of a team. No stranger to a fast-paced environment, you manage multiple assignments, and competing priorities while staying focused on important deadlines. You can quickly build relationships with a diverse range of people and explain complex technical issues in a way that everyone can understand.
You'll need to have:
  • Three or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work third shift
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.
  • Willingness to work on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • A degree.
  • Experience in routing and subnetting.
  • Nokia SR OS knowledge.
  • Experience in working with high speed wireless technologies.
  • Experience in automation/programming and scripting.
  • Experience with hardware/cable installation and maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent follow-up skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

*Assists with monitoring the company's radio network and resolves issues that cause reduced performance. This can include performance factors such as network interference, network coverage, or network capacity. Working knowledge of developing solutions to identified issues and works with internal teams to implement the changes into the network.
* Monitor the network, identifying areas that fail to meet KPI's established by the business.
* Utilize existing methods for resolving network performance issues in order to improve the overall network's performance and associated metrics.
* Implement methodologies for monitoring and troubleshooting the network to more efficiently capture performance concerns before becoming an issues for our customers.
* Partner with internal teams to deploy solutions into the network.
* Perform tests on the network's performance to verify the successful deployment of network solutions

The salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $82,000.00 - $134,000.00.
