We currently have an exciting opportunity at Northern Star (Pogo) LLC for a motivated Community Relations Coordinator! Work location is based at the Fairbanks Office of Northern Star Resources, Pogo Mine. This position works a schedule of Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day.

What’s the role?

The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for strengthening the organization’s community engagement and partnerships by coordinating outreach activities, representing the company at events, and identifying opportunities that align with business objectives. The role manages both internal and external communications, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across community initiatives and supporting leadership with relevant materials.

The coordinator will oversee the organization’s social media presence, creating and scheduling content to promote engagement, while monitoring performance and aligning messaging with company values. This position also drives employee engagement by organizing volunteer opportunities, internal events, and recognition programs that encourage workforce participation in community efforts. Additionally, the role provides administrative support to the External Affairs Manager which includes but is not limited to maintaining records, assisting with budgets, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.

Specific Department Requirements:
  • Community Partnerships:
    • Identify and develop relationships with local organizations, nonprofits, and community groups to foster partnerships that align with our sustainability goals.
    • Coordinate community events and initiatives to enhance our visibility and engagement.
  • Social Media Management and Communications:
    • Update and maintain the organization’s social media, ensuring that content is current, engaging, and reflective of our values and activities.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to create impactful posts and campaigns.
  • Employee Engagement Support:
    • Work with HR and Site Admins to plan and execute employee engagement activities to promote a positive workplace culture and community involvement.
    • Gather feedback from employees to improve engagement initiatives.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Assist with external affairs administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and maintaining records.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations or Marketing or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Proven experience in community relations, communications or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in social media.
  • Current US Drivers License.
Desired Experience & Competencies:
  • Sound understanding of legislation relating to mining rights, environmental protection, biodiversity, government operations and mining tenure.
  • Experience in mediation/negotiation processes.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
The specifics:
  • Previous administration experience in the resources sector, preferably on a remote site.
  • A good understanding of office processes, systems and equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Alaska Notary Public preferred (Or ability to get one within 3 months of hire).
  • Experience with document editing (grammar, formatting) and graphics production (visual aids, posters, notices).
  • Advanced computer literacy – Microsoft Office, database systems including INX, Pronto etc.
  • Ability to identify, address and overcome challenges and roadblocks to complete tasks.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
