Job description

Location: New York, NY (currently hybrid with up to 50% remote)

Your mission on the Music team:

The Senior Specialist, Music Insights & Royalties plays a key role in supporting both music royalty operations and the development of the Music Insights function. This role is responsible for the accurate administration of royalty reporting and payments, while leveraging royalty and music data to deliver insights that inform licensing, business development, and strategic decision-making.ย 

Working cross-functionally with Music, Finance, Business Systems, and Licensing, this role helps improve processes, maintain data integrity, and identify opportunities to drive operational efficiency and monetization.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analytics & Music Insightsย 

  • Analyze royalty and music-related data to uncover insights that support business strategy, operational efficiency, and monetization initiativesย 
  • Develop ad hoc analyses, reports and dashboards ย that support cross-functional decision-makingย 
  • Contribute to data storytelling efforts that translate complex information into clear music business insightsย 
  • Clean, validate, and transform large datasets by identifying inconsistencies, resolving data quality issues, and ensuring accuracy for reporting and analysis.ย 
  • Automate recurring reporting and data preparation processes using SQL, Python, and BI tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.ย 
  • Perform royalty analysis and ad hoc reporting/analytics projectย 

Royalties Administrationย 

  • Prepare, process, and deliver accurate and timely monthly and quarterly royalty statements across the US, Canada and UK, including error reconciliation, internal review, and finalization ย 
  • Maintain and update licensor data within the royalty system to ensure accuracy and alignment with contractual terms, including retroactive publishing updatesย 
  • Track and reconcile advances and recoupments across royalty and ERP systems ย 
  • Partner with Finance to coordinate payment approvals and maintain up-to-date licensor records in the ERP system (e.g., tax and banking information) ย 
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on royalty-related inquiries and requests ย 
  • Collaborate with Business Systems and Licensing teams to identify opportunities for automation and process improvementsย 
  • Support the processing of Letters of Direction (LODs) and provide ad hoc assistance to the Music team as needed ย 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, reporting, or business intelligence within the music industry, with demonstrated ability to process, report, and analyze complex datasets
  • Experience in music royalties, including hands-on experience with royalty systems, statement generation, and international royalties is a strong plus
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, including experience using Python, SQL, Databricks
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, IF statements, PivotTables)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present data clearly
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Working knowledge of the music industry, including labels, publishers, and collection societies
  • Familiarity with international PRO/CMO practices and royalty payment methodologies is a plus
  • Professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential informationย

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 USD.
