Job description

TITLE: Clinical Risk Management Specialist, Clinical Risk Management - Rochester General Hospital, Operations - Professional (Full-Time, Days)

STATUS: Full-time

LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital - 1360 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621

SCHEDULE: M-F, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; flexibility as needed

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Risk Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing patient safety and improving the quality of care within the

organization while limiting organizational risk. This individual is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating clinical risks, ensuring

compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify, assess, and prioritize clinical risks through various methods, including incident reporting, grievances, risk assessments, and trend analysis.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of adverse events and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce the likelihood and severity of adverse events, and successfully resolve patient care matters in a timely manner.

  • Serve as a direct resource with clinical and technical expertise to departments for clinical risk-related concerns.

  • Collaborate with clinical staff, leadership, and other departments (Quality, Patient Safety, Patient Relations, Security, Finance,

  • Regulatory, Compliance, Ethics, Claims/Insurance, and Legal) to integrate risk management principles into daily operations.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management interventions and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Provide educational training and support to staff and providers on risk management practices and procedures. Participate in new employee orientation programs.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all risk management activities.

  • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in clinical risk management.

  • Comply with regulatory and state agency reporting requirements.

  • Regularly conduct risk rounds within the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, risk management, or a related field required.

  • 5+ years of experience in a clinical setting, nursing or other healthcare-related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, risk management, or a related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with PC and office programs including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software.

  • Strong understanding of clinical processes, patient safety principles, and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be available to be on-site as needed.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • For those with a BSN; valid NYS Registered Nurse License is required

  • Certification in quality improvement, safety, clinical risk management or equivalent (e.g., Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality - CPHQ, Lean, Certified Professional in Patient Safety - CPPS) required or must be obtained within three years of hire.

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
